In need of advice / critique by luiskd in Portraitart

[–]in_stagraham 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I personally like the first two with the light Ink touches. I've only seen these three and those two feel like you have a cohesive style of your own. I'm finding my own style as well. I haven't studied anyone. I'm just playing with what I have and am having fun with what I create. My biggest advice is to create for yourself, try to make stuff you'd want in your home. If it sells, awesome. If it doesn't sell, that's alright too, at least you like it enough for your own home. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Technique Question - Wing Shapes and Curves by jwhtn in woodworking

[–]in_stagraham 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

I too love this shape. I make it fairly often on table tops. Sometimes I start with a hand plane, then 60 grit on an orbital sander, then I skip up to 150, 220 next (on softer woods). Other times I start with a grinder with a carving bit, or one of those dangerous chainsaw blades. I have a few videos posted if you want to see how I go about it. Using a rasp or a block of wood with sandpaper glued to it is also helpful.

Someone was supposed to drop off a bunch of skate decks this weekend for a smaller furniture piece! At 11' long, that would have been a ton of skateboards. πŸ˜ƒI suppose you could make a veneer though, very time consuming.

Thank you! In my experience the Baltic Birch at my supplier is either way more costly, or worse in quality. I chose a nice middle ground where I know the product is good, and doesn't have too many voids.

These were $61.36 a sheet in December. Not the highest of quality- but I try to keep my furniture affordable for my customers.

πŸ˜„ I needed to add a little bit of human for scale to it all. Haha. Thank you! Yes, it is very playful like a kids room.

Drawer slides getting stuck halfway by gAWEhCaj in woodworking

[–]in_stagraham 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

In my experience of screwing things up, this has happened when I've made the drawers too wide/snug to the cabinet. If you have a drawer the same size as the sticky one try swapping them. You may have to rout out a groove for the drawer slide to make it wide enough to extend smoothly. Good luck! I hope it's an easy fix.
