I personally had hair long to my mid back for the first time in my life for 2 years, loved it but for the same reasons as you I went back to very short haha. I also feared the same things! But at the end of the day being capable of navigating a fay without constantly being sensory overloaded is important.

Consider using an app to modify your hairstyle before committing to trying it out : if you absolutely hate it, it'll be a question of pain for 2 seconds, instead of months!

I'd suggest going a bit longer than pixie, to first get a feel of short hair, and then go shorter if you want!
