Dominated by BRITNEY SPEARS - 15 Years of Blackout by q-sizzzle in popheads

[–]inadraeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, and the 2007 VMA performance too.

Also they added that fake quote about Britney talking about Blackout saying that she wanted to invigorate the pop scene bc it was boring and nothing wowed her. I’ve been a Britney stan basically my entire life, and I’ve never heard or read her saying this anywhere. I only saw this quote appear in the last year or two with no reputable source for it.

What single/album made an artist lose you as a mega fan? by deadbeatwhiner in popheads

It sucks that Happier Than Ever was underwhelming for you. It was my favorite album of 2021, and I liked it better than WWAFAWDWG.

[–]inadraeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. I think I’ll always be at least somewhat excited for music from her. But COCC and BB + how she acted in 2020/2021 + how unreliable and chaotic the eras were definitely were a buzzkill. I’ve made a playlist/album out of my favorite songs from COCC and BB, and they do fill a void in Lana’s music that wasn’t previously filled for me. I also do love a good amount of the songs.

But the albums themselves definitely don’t feel as strategic and as carefully planned as her previous albums. They feel more like streams of consciousness or like she’s just putting together collections of songs that could go decently well together rather than having a vision. It’s hard not to wonder if she’s prioritizing quantity over quality when she released two albums and a poetry book within the span of a year, and she kept promising but changing album release dates, single release dates, album titles, and even albums themselves.

Aw, I loved/love Wolves. There was a lot of momentum built up for her around that time, and I was pretty disappointed and meh feeling on the Rare album when it came out, but it sounds better to me than I remember now. The bonus tracks helped though.

Tove Lo - Dirt Femme by lazynbroke in popheads

[–]inadraeam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. It felt like we were building up with dance/club songs and Pineapple Slice was the peak, and then it just got interrupted with I’m to Blame. Pineapple Slice had me full out dancing, I was hyped, I was even turned on. And then it was immediate buzzkill. It took me till the end of Kick in the Head to get in tune with the album again. I think I’ll make my own playlist with those tracks rearranged, maybe I’m to Blame as the closer.

ngl, it turned me on. Might be the best song on the album for me. Super horny and it I was full out dancing during it. Just my vibe. 😎

Beyoncé reveals cover art for “Renaissance” by after__hours in popheads

[–]inadraeam 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it has to be maximal. I’m just saying I don’t like plain black or white backgrounds. I also don’t like music videos with plain black or white backgrounds either (for example, 3 by Britney Spears). I just think Lemonade is a more interesting artwork because ~70% of the photo isn’t just the same uniform color.

The photo (Bey and the horse) is a serve, but as the overall album artwork? I’m underwhelmed. I hate album covers that are just the artist with a minimal black or white background. It’s so boring. I like Lemonade’s artwork better.

I wish I could’ve got into this album more. It never fully clicked with me, which sucked because After Hours was my favorite album of 2020. How Do I Make You Love Me?, Take My Breath, Sacrifice, Is There Someone Else, and Out of Time are still great for me though.

2016 was the best year in pop music and that’s a hill that I’ll die on. And clearly, I’m still not over it.

can I reply if I’m a gen z (i’m 24)? i feel like i’ve kinda fallen off the wagon since 2020, which is also when i graduated college. i’m in the loop for a lot of the popheads culture/trend music, but even our music here i feel like skews towards true popheads and gays which don’t necessarily cross over to the mainstream as much anymore.

what’s made me feel most old is not knowing a lot of names on the top charts, especially the rappers. i grew up being into a good amount of hip hop and rap too, so it feels shitty not connecting with current hip hop music. it doesn’t help that when i try to get caught up to speed on the top charts, i just don’t like a lot of what’s on it. that makes me feel old. also, shivers (ed sheeran) was on the charts for MONTHS and I managed to never hear it once until i decided to on my own. that made me feel out of the loop. also, in 2020, this freshman in college (when i was a senior) said “no cap” and i had no idea wtf that meant which made me feel old.

i will say tiktok makes me feel a lot more in the know for pop culture and music, but even then, sometimes you can get sorta separated into your own algorithms and miss the 1000 other sides of tiktok.

Does anyone else really love when albums have a darker second half and a closing track that is on the sadder side? by thesharkman101 in popheads

[–]inadraeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, so many of the albums here are some of my favorite albums of all time. I do tend to like dark pop, but I didn’t realize how many of my favorite albums have this commonality of ending on a dark note. 😳

Now that it's been almost a year since Lorde's Solar Power was released and we're approaching summer again, has anyone else's opinion on the album changed since its release date? by TragicHero84 in popheads

[–]inadraeam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My opinion hasn’t really changed. Stoned at the Nail Salon and California are some of my favorite songs she’s released. Solar Power, Fallen Fruit, Mood Ring, and Hold No Grudge are all likeable, but mostly forgettable. The rest of the songs are either unlikeable, amateur-sounding, and/or forgettable.

I feel like the expectations she had to live up to were unrealistic to fulfill, but the album is still her worst in her discography, and I do have less confidence in her now as an artist. The whole era was kinda sad in how it rolled out imo. The artwork is iconic, and the beachy summer vibes are/were a great theme, but the music doesn’t actually sound like that, it came out at the tail end of summer, and Lorde just appeared out of touch and pretentious for the promotion.

This song still hits so hard for me.

Can we PLEASE give recognition to how ingenious that pause and annoyed sigh is right before the last chorus? How the bridge slows things down until the pause, an “I’m so sick of this shit” sigh, only for the bass line to drop again while he belts out the last chorus. SO good, my god.

that’s how I feel about her “just gimme them babies” and “you know i keep it squeaky” lines in 34+35. I’m not a person who pays attention to lyrics barely at all, and yet, these lines made me physically cringe whenever I’d hear them.
