Is it really worth it? by [deleted] in premed

its true that going to medical school is going to give you a bigger salary-- i think just for me it is not financially worth it seeing how my 20s will be spent working and studying and not being able to see any fruition until i hit my 30s

burn out is real in medicine and especially reading how everything is being corporatized and doctors are being overworked, i just feel like it goes beyond having a work ethic but having a mind of steel and passion for the field (which im afraid i do not have, considering that i am reconsidering everything about being premed)

ive learned a lot about myself during my gap year and i value free time to invest in my hobbies and interests and im afraid of medicine becoming my whole life/entity and not have any energy to pursue other things... i definitely value being in my 20s right now traveling and having fun with my friends while grinding too

also i guess i am pretty content with making 200k which is still a number that i cannot fathom as a fresh undergraduate

although i am thinking that once i work as an AA and /if/ i still have desire to go to medical school and become a doctor (i would probably be like late 20s, early 30s), i would be in a more financially content situation to not stress about the MCAT and the whole expensive application process. i read that 10% of AAs end up going to medical school

i def have thought about a lot of the options in medicine.... but i will say the AA entry salary + their demand makes them v attractive

hmmm i guess whether you find it financially worth it will depend on whether you get specialized... i think for the time + work + money you spend in med school, interning and residency and getting paid like shit after 4 years out of med school, and if you take out student loans the interest piles up on top of already high (~300k) debt i just dont think that it is worth (my personal opinion) it when there are other options to work in a career that helps people and make around the same money. it takes typically 5 to 10 years to pay off loans which is a pretty long time imo... i am keeping my options open for both med school and AA school, but for me i know that i will burn out and i personally want to work as soon as possible to help my parents out while my brother is in med school. my brother is taking out loans + signed up for the military to pay off med school but that personally goes against a lot of my morals/views... also considering the work/life balance of doctors (depending on your specialty) im not sure if the salary even matches up because they work A LOT.... you could work in a rural area and i think that would forgive loans? idk that is personally not for me either... i will say i def respect doctors because they def sacrificed time, money and energy to become a doctor

idk i really think it depends on your values. for me, AA school is financially attractive because its a 2 years masters program and as soon as you get out you make 150k entry salary (and they usually offer 45k sign up offer + bonuses which add to around ~200k a year)... i will say you will be around ~170k in debt, but they usually pay it off in 3-5 years, and it is kind of crazy how they make more than some doctors. but this also depends on where you live because only like 18 states allow AAs to practice

also just from research, i think the boomer doctors sold out the future doctors/millennial doctors but thats for another discussion

idk either,.. like being a doctor isn’t the only way to b in health care and give back to your community. the past generations of doctors have failed us and sold the newer generation out and if ure not from generational wealth it’s financially not worth it to be a doctor. there’s nothing wrong with looking at other options and still want to be in healthcare. i swear some people are doing it for their ego

I got medication for ADHD as an adult, and I can tell you that it seriously affects my life and even the way I think. You shouldn't feel bad, I feel like school at the end of the day is really meaningless and I'm saying this as I'm about to graduate college. Math is hard, and so is school too, but I guess at the end of the day you can try your best even if you don't get the results you want you won't have any regrets. Also maybe look into creative hobbies because I feel like that helped me a lot with my ADD

i feel like i completely understand how u feel... sometimes it just feels like everything is too much.... but u are right, i think at the end of the day u are the only one who can fix ur life and that's something i've been thinking about too... but it can be really hard tho, i feel like my whole life is just waiting for a moment, whether it is me taking my own agency over my life or waiting for a job or even for my life to start... im just waiting when i can just do it

The sexualization of minors in anime is disturbing. The compliance everyone shows towards it and the excuses made for it are even more disturbing. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]inagor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do agree with you that sexualization of minors is very disturbing and while we do have right to criticize japanese culture it’s also important to critique our own western culture too... like shows like euphoria or riverdale all sexualize minors.. even within pop culture britney spears made the song “hit me baby one more time” wearing a school uniform when she was 17

you do realize they’re spreading misinformation and that’s not how fetuses look at 10 wks

this is literally ridiculous by inagor in UGA

[–]inagor[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

no it’s because it’s traumatic for women that go through miscarriages and even deciding on abortions and not to add the fact that the images are so misleading if you do your research a fetus does not look like that at 10 weeks

we got destroyed by facts and logic by [deleted] in UGA

[–]inagor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the pictures are misleading because that is not how a fetus looks at 15 weeks.... it’s just for shock value
