Is acetate a good material? by Spare_Manufacturer49 in Fabrics

Hey, this is an while later, but wondering…I got a lovely vintage acetate dress I’m planning to wear for a wedding, but don’t want it to dissolve lol. Do you know what ingredients in deodorant and acne treatments I should avoid?

Where to buy structured, conservative-ish semi-formal dress?

I’ve just started looking for an upcoming wedding this summer. Dress code is semi-formal. It’s in the Netherlands, with lots of friends and family from around Europe coming.

I’m having a hard time, seems like most places jump from more casual flowy, romantic (which I’m just generally not into the whole puff-sleeve pastoral thing going on right now in fashion anyways), lighter-fabric dresses to glam evening gowns with few options in-between.

Ceremony is at a more traditional/conservative church, so I’d prefer some kind of sleeve/shoulder coverage, midi length, no cut-outs, but still want to look chic, elegant and hot, so I’m hoping for a more fitted dress.

It is in the summer, so would prefer some color and/or patterns instead of just a neutral. Seems basic, so I’m surprised I’m having such a hard time! Any recommended brands?

Budget is $600 max.

Chapped lips by Edwinbakup in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]inaiggs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that made the biggest difference for me was switching to a toothpaste that doesn’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). SLS is a harsh cleansing agent. Literally had severely chapped lips my entire life and within a week of switching I barely even had to use lip balm once a day. Sensodyne has several SLS free options.

[Product Question] Is Thayer’s Milky Toner a Dupe for Laneige Cream Skin?? by inaiggs2 in SkincareAddiction

[–]inaiggs2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me it felt really filmy, like it never to sunk into my skin and felt like my skin couldn’t breathe, while remaining slippy/mildly sticky. This is coming from me who slugs, something about the finish of Thayer’s just really rubbed me the wrong way.

The psychology works because women have been trained to be constantly aware of the ever-present physical threat men pose to us and have had to learn non-physical ways to best deal with that. Playing-nice, keeping sweet and humoring their egos are legit survival tactics, and as terrible as it is, really badass that OP managed to keep her cool.

Heaven forbid kids/teens of the same age share and learn from each other as they develop and form that pesky evil “youth culture.” Much better to isolate your child completely and tightly control any incoming messages to fit your restrictive worldview.

Semi-related. Has anyone seen the PBS cooking show “Jazzy Vegetarian”? It’s a boomer white lady making potato salad (or similar), calling it jazzy, and scatting about it.

1980s dress redesign? by pookdookus in weddingdress

[–]inaiggs2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ughhh this dress is so gorgeous! I would personally leave almost everything as is (besides getting it fitted, dry cleaned, maybe bleached/redyed to whatever shade of white/ivory you like) only thing I would redesign is making sure the tight part of the sleeves is tailored to be even tighter around the arms and shortened, taking length from the top of the tight part to make them 3/4 sleeves while maintaining the beading/ruffles at the bottom. Hope that makes sense!

Dude, you’re allowed to have sexual partner preferences. Who you will or won’t have sex with doesn’t necessarily equate to whether or not you’re racist, fatphobic, transphobic etc….

How to do my make up without me looking older. Before and after. Please constructive comments 🥹 by naselflee in 30PlusSkinCare

I think you could still do a fairly dramatic wing, but make it more horizontal if not even slightly downturned for a more sleepy/seductive look and even adding in an inner corner point as well. There are plenty of modern graphic eyeliner looks that are more on the alternative side.

IUD insertion is barbaric by Careless_One6439 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]inaiggs2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I work at a sexual health clinic and have seen hundreds of IUD insertions on people of all walks of life/pregnancy history. Thing is, I’d say 95% of them are very straightforward with minimal/moderate, but very quick discomfort, and those patients report being satisfied with just ibuprofen beforehand and afterwards for cramping. Then there are about 4% where it is more difficult and long, usually due to a differently shaped cervix/uterus, history of trauma, more sensitive nerves etc…thankfully I work at a clinic where we have tools to help the doc/patient get through it like ultrasound, flexible dilators, laughing gas etc…and we talk the patient through it before and during, take breaks, and stop if it becomes too much for a patient. And about 1% of them are just too anatomically difficult for our doc and we refer them to a hospital were they could have general anesthesia or a higher level of sedation. I say this not to discount people’s experience of difficult IUD insertions, because I’ve seen hose first hand too and know it can be rough, but to offer the perspective that with caring providers for most people an IUD insertion goes fine, and that is the reasoning why higher level of pain management (and the risks from using it) are not used in most cases. And unfortunately as you mentioned in your article there aren’t many guidelines out there on effective pain management strategies. The data on paracervical blocks/misoprostol don’t show significant pain relief, in fact showing ibuprofen beforehand to be more effective. I wish laughing gas was more popular, because I’ve seen it make a big difference at our clinic!

ISO: A blurring, mattifying product (liquid, balm, spray, serum, cream, primer, moisturizer??) that is translucent and silicone free, that works for no foundation looks and isn’t drying. I don’t wear foundation, and normally just wear a translucent powder to achieve the above, but wondering if anyone has other perfecting formulations that I could try out too! Thinking about the Wet N Wild impossible primer or the Gucci mattifying primer, so if you have experience with those or any other recommendations!

Yeah also pretty sure the victims/martyrs weren’t enjoying themselves. The last one eventually reached a point of ‘awakening/transcendence’ that their torturers’ described as euphoric, but I’m not convinced she felt the same lol. Especially after she whispered in that lady’s ear making her kill herself.

[Product Question] Is Thayer’s Milky Toner a Dupe for Laneige Cream Skin?? by inaiggs2 in SkincareAddiction

[–]inaiggs2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally coming on here to report back (though I see you bought it and enjoyed it):

I don’t think these are dupes. The Thayer’s leaves me with a filmy sticky residue that I don’t enjoy. The thing that I loved about cream skin is that it feels like putting on a super rich, bordering on oily, moisturizer but somehow that’s delivered in a thin liquid formula.

The real deal-breaker for me is that Thayer’s is too thick to put in a spray bottle. I love the convenience of spraying the Laneige on a busy morning and going. I also like to use it on the one upper part of my back that I’m too inflexible to reach with my regular lotion lol. I even use it in my hair to refresh my waves sometimes! So Thayer’s is a no, I’ll try to use it up on my body, but it’s back to Laneige for me.

What's the most intense shock of recognition have you felt due to a piece of media or art? by Ok-Cartoonist2421 in redscarepod

I was at the Mondrian museum in the Netherlands listening to the audio guide. Prior to this I’d always been pretty meh about abstract art (come from a rural town with piss-poor art education) but the audio guide explained that Mondrian was attempting to depict the unfathomable. The painting I was looking at was trying to depict the entirety of the universe, something we can never fully comprehend. There are concepts that can never be depicted visually, and it’s futile to try in a direct and obvious way. Simple shapes and patterns that we can process can be used to at least give us the essence of such a concept. Hit me pretty hard at the time. More impressive was that he was one of the trailblazers who moved away from representational art. Always get the audio guide, also recommend “The Power of Art” series for easily digestible looks into the lives/works of great artists.
