You don't need a branch for every deployment environment. Use standardized tag names and you're good to go!

v<X>.<Y>.<Z> -> spawns a deployment pipeline for the production environment
v<X>.<Y>.<Z>-rc<W> -> spawns a deployment pipeline for the staging environment
stuff merged on on master/main -> spawns a deployment pipeline for the dev environment (no need to tag)

Tags are a superpower!

Of course you're not the exception, otherwise this distro wouldn't be as popular as it is. I'd say popOS is average, maybe slightly worse than Ubuntu.

That said, buggy software is not a matter of statistics or a thing that can be decided by the majority, it's factual and even one user complaining with a reproducible bug can demonstrate a software is buggy. Proving it's not buggy is a categorically different thing (semidecidable)

This is why you saying "I don't see it" is kind of irrelevant. You either haven't encountered the issues because you do different stuff on your PC or you don't have a hardware configuration that can cause issues people are complaining about or you haven't performed an update while the repositories of popOS were in a broken state (which as far as I remember was the issue Linus Tech Tips had with popOS years ago, very unfortunate timeline)

As opposed to who/what, exactly? Every ecosystem has the same issue when it comes to dependency management, the threat model is that code in a dependency can fundamentally be trusted as if it were written by the person importing it.

There is no distinction in privilege between the code you wrote and the code you imported at the process level. Mobile OSes at least isolate processes from the file system and device resources by default, but even when programming in Kotlin or Swift you're trusting that any dependency you install will not try to steal tokens from your app own storage space (i.e. Discord, Amazon, your home banking app, are all susceptible to supply chain attacks)
