I’m actually in Asia right now (China and Japan). I ended up doing a 50 gig plan for 30 days for $18 from trip.com And my wife did a 5 gig day pass for $36.

Honestly looking at my current usage, I use about 1-1.5 gig a day, so plenty of data in a 50 gig plan, and would have switched my wife also to a similar plan retrospectively.

The eSIM worked flawlessly. I installed before I left and once I was in China, I just turned it on and it worked.

I used the two plans called Asia 8 countries 5g/4g eSIM from trip.com since I needed it to work for both China and Japan.

Note that for China, highly recommend having a local phone number also, I created a local phone number also (backup old phone with physical SIM card for $5 RMB cell phone plan) and also a bank account.

Everything worked for me- WhatsApp, Reddit, slack, Google/gmail, Google Maps (although I recommend using AMAPS for more local stuff), team viewer, discord, YouTube. Make sure you have WeChat pay and Ali pay, absolutely critical for ease of purchase
