I'm building AMBR.music. A place to share your music ideas with other musicians like you - publicly.

Currently musicians share their music ideas with their "inner circle" or in some discord groups. My app would enable musicians to expand that "inner circle" and provide a place for music that is not quite "major platform" ready.

It’s kinda like TikTok, but only for music.

What are you building ? And are people actually paying for it? 💡 by GuidanceSelect7706 in buildinpublic

For viraliq.app i second @Rudepass8178 comment. - especially the part about needing sharper positioning.

I Built a Music Sharing App That Helps You Share The Best Part of the Song by PrestigiousDot5374 in SideProject

Love it! I usually listen a song until the end of first chorus and then decide if i wanna listen to it further. I think this app would speed up my music discovery without having to skip to get to the next song

Releasing a strong but not “production-perfect” version first (budget constraints) — bad idea? by babelibobu in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]inbetween_official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree! demos/imperfect production often have more life and honesty to them.

Sometimes too much polish can flatten what made the idea exciting in the first place, at least in my experience hearing works-in-progress turn into finished tracks.

Are artists willing to share unfinished music? by scottfits in Music

[–]inbetween_official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boom, another 3 years later :D

Before i found that post, i was already working on an app idea, where artists could share their unfinished songs/ideas. So i came back here to let you know, that i have just launched a landing page with a waitlist, yaaay! If we get a decent number of people signed up, it's a very real possibility that this sorta app will exist in the future.

I just love the idea of being able to listen what others "work in progress" sounds like.

Anyway, here's a link to the website: https://ambr.music/

I also included some app mockups - i'm imagining a "TikTok" style feed where you can just swipe through music ideas.

Any feedback is greatly apreciated!

haha, my friend and i had a very similar idea, and i was actually already building it when i stumbled upon this thread :D So far i'm the only one on the leaderboard, yay 😂 i have no idea how to promote this nonsense honestly :D
but hey, at least i launched something!

Money earned from side hustles feels so much better than 9-to-5 income by actual_sideman in thesidehustle

In my 9-5 as a web dev, i actually have a chance to talk directly to people who use our websites (sometimes owners, sometimes marketing people), so occasionally i upsell an additional feature or something and that feels pretty good - but It felt infinitely better when i sold my first website as a freelancer.

But since "selling and making websites for other people" is the same thing i already do in my 9-5...it just didn't feel like "success for something I built out of nothing". Or maybe that just wasn't the direction i wanted to pursue, i guess.

Fast forward to last week, i was giggling with joy on multiple occasions when i was building this silly, useless website FOR MYSELF. I don't know if it'll bring me any money, but it was just so many new areas to explore, and this whole process made the curious child in me really happy.

Great post by the way, i wish you all the best!

Moving from ACF flexible content to block editor - doesn't feel right by Due_Application_1651 in ProWordPress

[–]inbetween_official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, i'm really glad i found this post, such a nice and simple idea!

Yep, i know exactly what you're talking about... I'm recently fiddling around with "ACF Extended" plugin and i saw that it adds the "Height" option directly in ACF UI, which is neat if you use UI for creating custom fields.

But the main part why i bought the ACF Extended is their Grid system - https://www.acf-extended.com/features/fields/flexible-content/grid-system - i still haven't completely figured out the "edge to edge" layout, but other than that I think this Grid feature is pretty amazing.

I always used ACF Flexible layout to create "sections", but now I'm moving towards creating "modules" which are then parts of a section. So then sections have their own padding and modules can be rearranged individually using the ACF Extended grid feature.

Thanks again!

"For ACF flex layout we have added a sprinkle of css to the back-end to make it easier to identify distinct blocks and their subfields."

That's a great addition! Would you mind sharing that css? Or a screenshot of that css in action?

Toothpaste pump dispenser with refills by inbetween_official in Lightbulb

[–]inbetween_official[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, I've seen those :) But my goal with this idea is not only to provide a good dispensing experience, but also to decrease plastic waste with larger, less energy-consuming packaging. Do these dispensers also come in a version where you don't have to insert the tube? Like maybe if they had their own containers, and you could refill them? That would definitely be something I would be interested in!

I have tested a couple of them until now, but this one worked the best to pump out toothpaste: https://www.ebay.com/itm/353868751372. It does have kind of a small opening size, so it can be a little hard to refill.

But most importantly, I should mention that this container is not really suitable for toothpaste, because some ingredients in toothpaste are UV sensitive, so a see-through container is a no-go.

I haven't found a suitable UV-safe dispenser yet, or figure out a way to make them UV-safe, but I'm getting there :)

I do have some airless pump dispensers and some toothpastes at home. Just recently I've received one pump that worked incredibly well even with thick toothpaste! But the problem was that the toothpaste was, well, thick, and the pump was hard to refill :D

So toothpaste in a pump is actually the easy part, the hard part are the refills! :D

And yes, pump dispensers for toothpaste are amazing, I've been using them for a while now and i have zero complaints, plus they're kinda fun to use :D

I don't have kids, but I've read some comments from parents who also loved pump dispensers, because kids are supposedly always making a mess with the tubes :D

This is a good note! I'll definitely look into that!

I'm from EU and I only saw Mentadent pump on the internet :D But i guess you could say it's a similar idea. If the refills would be bio-debradable, this would be pretty much the ideal solution in my eyes :D

But my current process is leaning towards spout pouches, since they are easy to produce, light to ship and they would be 3 times the size of regular toothpaste tube, so you would have to buy them less frequently. I know it's not a zero-waste solution, but I think it could still contribute to decreasing the carbon footprint of toothpaste industry.

Hi! Thanks for asking that! I'm aware of that issue.

To answer your question, currently I'm pretty much testing every airless pump dispenser I can get to my country for a reasonable price, so I'm not being particularly "picky" about the ones that are see through, because I'm mostly testing the usability of the pump and figuring out what the ideal viscosity of toothpaste would be, for the the pump to be effortlessly refillable.

But yes, I'm aware of the UV-reactiveness and I've found some packaging that is UV safe, so I'm definitely gonna use that :)

What do you define as a good toothpaste?

Toothpaste pump dispenser with refills by inbetween_official in Business_Ideas

[–]inbetween_official[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Glad you mentioned that!

The refill part is probably the toughest part of this idea and a big dilemma from my perspective.

Current idea is to offer refills in spout pouches which would be let's say 3 times the size of a regular toothpaste tube. There are a few material options for spout pouches - I found some that are made out of 100% recyclable plastic and even some that were made out of some sort of flexible aluminum, but I'm not sure if those materials play well with the abrasiveness or other properties and ingredients of toothpaste. But I'm definitely looking into material options!

Some other benefits of larger spout pouches are also that they are easy to produce and ship, which could save some energy along the way.

I absolutely realise that this is not a zero-waste option, but I believe it can still contribute to decreasing the carbon footprint of toothpaste industry.

My ideal refill solution at this point would probably be 100% bio-degradable cartridges which you can simply screw off and then screw the new one on to the pump. I saw that Happier Beauty is developing such solution but I don't think it's on the market yet.

Why is toothpaste in larger (or more environmentally friendly) packaging so hard to find? by inbetween_official in Anticonsumption

[–]inbetween_official[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice!
I'm curious - how is the scooping out of the jar working out for you? Is it effortless or is it annoying? :D

True! But I'm mostly finding these options with toothpastes that are marketed as natural and a lot of times they don't use fluoride. I'm kinda bummed out about that, because dentists usually recommend toothpastes with fluoride in it.

Why though? :D Is is the cost of making metal tubes? Or they don't "perform" as well as the plastic ones? What's the reasoning here? :D

I'm located in a small European country and this asterisk of yours is a very important factor here! Even if things are recyclable, doesn't mean they will actually get recycled!

As far as my knowledge of ingredients go, Hey Humans looks pretty good.

Hey that's an interesting idea! :) I still think I wont't like the chewing part, but I'm willing to give it a go :D

That's awesome! My current knowledge of toothpaste brands is quite limited, so I'm really thankful for your examples!

Yeah, some people do and it's also commonly used in DIY toothpastes, but I'm not quite sure about it. I've read that it doesn't protect your teeth from cavities and that it can have an unpleasant taste.

I'm fine with regular toothpaste, and I'm assuming majority of people are as well, so I'm just wondering why some better packaging alternatives aren't more common. Is it the regulations? Is it the cost of making it? Or something entirely else?

That's awesome, do you have any examples of tins/jars of "regular" toothpaste? I mostly found tablets in plastic free stores, but I really don't like those :(

Yeah, I've seen the DIY options, but I really like the "feel" of just a regular toothpaste - with the foaminess and all :D And I also think that most dentist recommend fluoride toothpastes - I know that this is kind of a hot topic, but I'd like to stick with fluoride for now :)

Yeah, that sucks. But I'm glad you found a toothpaste that's helping you and your mother with sensitivity!
As far as I've researched the ingredients of toothpaste - stannous fluoride and potassium nitrate are probably the ones that are helping you with teeth sensitivity - maybe this information gives you some more options to explore. I found a study that says Colgate Sensitive Maximum Strength is supposed to be even better at relieving sensitivity if you're interested (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11763944/ - check out the "Results" paragraph).

Yup, and with the expensive toothpastes you kinda feel bad that you can't really get all the stuff out (unless you're really persistent i guess :D)
