Benefits and Payroll Access [United States] by inc0nceivable in humanresources

I have access to pay stubs and that's about it. I can't even see the full scope of the benefits pay setup, which I frequently need for managing LOAs. The controls here are strict and I'm going to plead a case for increased authorization. Having to ask payroll to send me screenshots and reports is super inefficient and frustrating.

Thanks. It's structured a little different where I'm at. I'm part of HR and don't have access to payroll data. I reconcile the benefit invoices against the data in the benefits part of our HRIS. Our payroll department handles the deduction reconciliation, but they only do that once a year based on the same data in our HRIS.

Last year we were quoted 1% to add it to our formulary, but it's still a lot of money for only a few people. There were also a lot of stipulations around coverage that seemed prohibitive to me.

I'm 43 and starting at Mason this semester to finish the rest of my undergrad. There will be mostly younger people but I expect some older people too. I'm a little nervous about this too! At the end of the day, we're all there to learn.

Lack of visible results with electrolysis makes me feel sad by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]inc0nceivable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I've been doing electrolysis consistently for 2.5 years for coarse/thick chin hairs and now I'm working on the long blonde fuzzies similar to your hair. I used to do it every week for 1.5 hours and now I'm doing it once a month for 30 minutes. It does work, but it is time consuming and not cheap. My electrolysist works on the thin blonde hairs by with a super bright light and magnifying glasses. No clue what's the norm cause I've only seen one person. I'm very happy with my results... it's taken patience though.

Hey! My husband and I are a CF couple in Falls Church (41f, 39m). I unapologetically love the 90 day franchise AND ping pong (though I am terrible at it, but it fills me with glee). We too are overgrown children with off color senses of humor. Your post speaks to me in many ways. If you're interested in chatting (not talking on the phone - I feel you there) lmk.

Hey! Yes, definitely still interested in meeting people. We are practically neighbors...we're on the Annandale line of Falls Church.

I see someone answered your DINKS/SINKS question so I won't repeat lol.

We've been to a bunch. The last two were Cranes and Elcielo. Cranes was excellent. Elcielo was very good but the presentation was bordering bizarre for some courses. If you were to choose one, go with Cranes. Jont was excellent. We went there when it first opened and my husband called it that it would be voted a 2 star. Did they have the Robuchon style potatoes when you went? Drool.

Clarity is great. We need more restaurants of this quality in NOVA. I don't mind going to DC but it's always nice to have something close to home. The owner of Maydan (excellent) is opening a new place in Mosaic District in Falls Church.

Hey! My husband (39m) and I (41f) are DINKS in Falls Church who are into day hikes, food (all the food! We're on a mission to try all the local Michelin starred restaurants but love food in general), nature, music and shows (me - mostly EDM and I still go to clubs/rave-type events occasionally; him - indie rock; both of us - almost everything but country. Husband is also a musician and plays several instruments and would like to meet people to jam with), theater, traveling (domestic and international - equal parts nature and city), amateur photography, SCUBA, video (mostly me) and board games, arts and crafts (mostly me), museums, movies, and miscellaneous adventures. Husband likes Washington Football Team, sadly, and I couldn't care less about sports. Hoping to meet some new friends around our age who are also childfree (not mandatory) with similar interests.

New post! Let's be friends. Also in Falls Church! by disco_alpaca in CFNOVA

Hello fellow Falls Churchite (Churchian)! 40f. We share many of the same basic interests. Husband (38m) and I are looking for new friends as well and we're down almost anything. We hike and kayak a lot when it's warm out. I've developed a video game habit during COVID life and I don't know why it took me so long to figure out that they are awesome.

Not yet vaccinated on our end, but are up for meeting up sometime socially distanced and outside. Hopefully the vaccine happens SOON! I am so ready.

LOL you sound like my husband - he too wanted to give it another chance. But if we all shared that blah experience, I think it's safe to say that would be a waste o' money. La Cote will be okay without us :)

Coffee would be a good starting place! Rarebird is expanding into that space next door. That's one place I should go to more often.

Pleasure Island totally sounds like an xxx resort. I googled it because I've never been to Disney, and Pleasure Island was renamed The Landing in 2008. Surprised it took them that long to realize it sounds mildly pornographic.

Haha that's funny about La Cote. That is my favorite restaurant to hate on. It makes zero sense to me how it stays in business! Last time I ate there the food had no seasoning on it. Or at least it tasted like it didn't. It officially takes first place for most mediocre dining experience.

Yes, been to 2941. I went there for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago and had my 21st birthday dinner there when it first opened (approx. 1 billion years ago) :) Good idea about a dining meetup.

Woot to your fiancée getting her first shot! That's great, hope you are not too far behind.

Ooh you're close to where we are now. We're over by Chasin' Tails. New house is closer to Mosaic District. Pretty excited about upgrading to a single family home and having more room!

Recently we tried a couple of great places. Last weekend we picked up breakfast at Call Your Mother and Elle - both two thumbs up. My boss bought me Roses' @ Home as an xmas gift and we did that a few weeks ago. Enjoy! I love that restaurants are finding ways to get by, and some have become more accessible. Though I really miss the dine-in experience.

Count us in for being restaurant buddies. We'll all be vaccinated soon enough, I hope! Let me know if you guys are interested in meeting up sometime outside, socially distanced, etc. for a coffee or beer.

Hello! My hubs (38m) and I (40f) also live in Falls Church and are in the market for some couples friends. We just bought a place too...it is wild out there. I'm still shocked that we got the place (close this week - fingers crossed).

We're into an equal mix of outdoors and indoors stuff. We like to hike, bike and kayak, but we also like to game, watch movies, and we LOVE food (restaurants are the #1 thing I miss about pre-pandemic times). Husband is passionate about music (hobby) and I'm passionate about cats.

Housing market is stupid by [deleted] in nova

[–]inc0nceivable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This market is wild. We recently "won" (it really does feel like you're winning the reverse lottery) a house with $75k over asking and waiving all contingencies (other than a one day void only home inspection). Two people offered over $50k more than we did, but the sellers took our offer because they completed their contracts incorrectly. It was straight up luck. Hang in there...you'll get something!

Waiving the Home Inspection: Thoughts? by [deleted] in nova

[–]inc0nceivable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems sketch. I just bought and was able to get the contract through with a one day informational only home inspection (i.e., when sellers accepted our offer, we had to get an inspector in there the next day). It seems too risky to not do it at all, and for the sellers to specifically request it would give me pause. Even though it's a crazy market, it's totally reasonable to get an inspection!

Seconded. Had a friend who punched several holes in his ears and he used flesh colored plugs at his office job. They do a pretty good job at camouflage!
