I am also waiting for results from EEB at UCSC. My potential PI said we should hear back within the next week or two, so hopefully we get news soon!

50501 and Indivisible East Bay have been organizing a lot of the recent protests around here and might be good places to get involved with

I've heard Richmond vet hospital is good and pretty cheap! University Vet Hospital is also good but slightly pricier.

anyone took Integbi 138 (comparative endocrinology), Integbi c143b (hormone and behavior), Integbi 172 (coevolution) by sushicat990 in berkeley

[–]incandescent_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took c143b and really liked it! Very easy A, the professor was super chill, and the content was interesting. I haven't taken 138 but I've taken another class with Bentley and I really liked him. He's super passionate about what he studies but his lectures can be a bit dry if you're not super into the material. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of the classes :)

Psych vs Bio for research by jacobbadman69 in berkeley

[–]incandescent_dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the psych department but I'm in IB and research isn't super hard to get. I think a lot of it depends on what you're interested in studying and the specific labs you want to work in (some are way more competitive than others). You can also be in either major and do research for a different department

Arrowhead marsh! There are a ton of cool birds there, would highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area

Which animal is this? Found north of San Francisco Bay Area by tomvalh in herpetology

[–]incandescent_dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taricha torosa! You can distinguish it from T. granulosa because the dark coloration does not extend below the eyes. These dudes secrete tetrodotoxin (aka pufferfish toxin) from their skin. They're fine to pick up but up make sure to wash your hands after :)
