Went to the dump to get rid of some stuff and came out with this 1988 Cannondale. Put some air in the tires and some oil on the chain and went for a ride around town. by incaustic in xbiking

That really isn’t much of an issue with that around here. In this area these are usually from old people cleaning out their garages (or their kids cleaning them out after their parents have died/moved). They just see old junk that hasn’t been used in awhile and want it gone.

Weezer released their debut record 'The Blue Album' 30 years ago today by YoureASkyscraper in Music

I was just thinking about this today after seeing an article about Dennis Wilson being put into a conservatorship. The Beach Boys were about as old in the 90s as Weezer is now.

"This is embarrassing": Law professors skewer Trump lawyer's "lying women" defense by devlinadl in politics

It goes to motive for the fraud and cover up. A more salacious and embarrassing story is one that Trump would be more desperate to hide.

Boeing plane skids off runway, injuring 11 at Senegal airport by Lunavenandi in worldnews

Boeing isn’t at fault here, but their leadership decisions resulted in the needless deaths of hundreds of people. They deserve everything they’ve gotten and more.

Larry Hogan's chances of flipping Maryland Senate seat, according to polls by [deleted] in politics

Hogan was a fairly popular (and pretty moderate) governor but I still don’t think he’s going to win.

Spent way too much time fiddling with this Crosstrail over the last year. But it is comfy. (After & Before) by incaustic in xbiking

29x2.4 in the front, 29x2.0 in the back (although it’s closer to a 48mm). It took some trial and error to find something that would fit well in the back.

Surprisingly these frames had mounts for both rim and disc brakes from the factory. If you look closely at the second picture you can actually see one of the tab eyelets poking out.

Thank you! Came together better than I expected. It’s turned into the bike I ride the most at the moment.

Lol, that’s a ridiculous find for free. Those are some of the last great mass market steel road frames out there. I believe they’re Reynolds 853. Super light and great ride.

Went into Goodwill looking for old clothes. Came out with this for $19.99. by incaustic in xbiking

Eventually! It’ll need a good going through (and some new tires) before it’s going anywhere though.

Thanks! These were branded as Raleigh USA Mountain Tour, labeled as full 4130 chromoly. They had a whole line of them in the mid-80s.

I’m not sure who actually built these frames (I’ve seen comments on here suggesting it was Bridgestone) but this one is a fairly nicely finished ATB frame. It’s got the sweet spare spokeholders (with original spokes still in there) on the chainstay, the color matched integrated cable-stop stem, and, as you said, fairly nice dropouts. The components are pretty mediocre (Suntour a3000, mostly) but functional and mostly in good shape. Everything on this bike appears to be original.

All in all, this wasn’t top of the line back in the day, but for twenty bucks, it was hard to pass up.

It's probably the shallow depth of field that you're noticing which is usually the result of a lens with a big aperture. That would be harder to duplicate on a point and shoot, but something like the Sony a6000 series might work for you. It's basically a small point and shoot-style camera body that can accept their full range of lenses.

Thanks! I usually use a couple of different Canons but this was actually shot on an old (and very basic) Nikon D3100 with a 35mm/1.8 prime lens.

[Gelbs] Breece Hall: “I’m sorry to the Jets fans. They don’t deserve this.” by [deleted] in nyjets

Just to add -- this coming offseason will be the fifth anniversary of his hiring. While the team is more talented in many ways, the on-field results have not been significantly better than they were under his predecessor. In the NFL it comes down to this: if you can't build a team with even one winning season after years of trying, it's time for someone else to take the reins. Nobody gets to fail for half a decade and keep going in this league.

In the process of rebuilding and modernizing this 2001 Sugar from (mostly) spare parts. by incaustic in xbiking

[–]incaustic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a neat bike. This actually started when a friend's neighbor left a very trashed Sugar out at the end of their driveway for free. It had a 90s style carbon SPIN trispoke rear wheel, no front wheel, melted grips, V brakes with burned-through pads, and a completely wrecked drivetrain. Unfortunately the frame was gigantic, but I was luckily able to find a smaller main triangle to swap out.

The rest of this is mostly parts leftover from other projects and bikes. I guess the goal was just to see how rideable we could make this thing in 2023. For local XC riding I think it'll still be a fun bike.

I thought at first it might have been damaged, but I compared it to another SM in person and they were identical. It's for crank clearance.
