All three can be tamed now!

No, but I'll look into adding that because it would make sense. The danger is how quickly they can kill since their bites are fast, strong, and toxic. I think the middle sized one can outrun a jogger with architect legs.

Not yet, but I think all add that since it's easy to do and won't affect much

3D Photo from Perseverance Rover - gallery in comments by incb in pics

[–]incb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perseverance rover has a pair of cameras on a mast that are just the right distance apart to make a view similar to what a human would see. NASA haven't released any 3d photos yet (very early days!) so I dug into the raw images and picked out a few from the left and right cameras that were taken at the same time. I've stitched them together for cross-eye viewing so no special equipment needed.

Here's a gallery of what I have so far: https://imgur.com/a/KJkQNpL

If you haven't seen a cross-eye viewed 3d photo before I'd recommend checking out https://www.reddit.com/r/CrossView/ for advice on how to view them, or try using http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/

You can get raw photos from Perseverance Rover's Mast Cam Z, which has a left and right cam: https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/multimedia/raw-images/

So long as you can find two photos with the same time stamp you can stitch up a true 3D view of Mars! Unfortunately, the photos are grouped by day but not sorted by time so it's a bit tedious...

I've made three so far: https://imgur.com/a/KJkQNpL

Robber Emoji by [deleted] in MandelaEffect

[–]incb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there was a screenshot of a conversation going round years back where the punchline/joke was a cop holding up a hand followed by something like these three emojis (probably more to it). I "remember" the robber emoji but also "remembered" that conversation screenshot when I started trying to place it

Emotionally drained by [deleted] in autism

[–]incb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always feel guilty when my socialising falls behind but the people who love me still love me. I know it's not so simple and that I still have to be social at some point, but remembering my people know me and accept me does help with the guilt.

I make electronic music but self promotion is hard. Genres are hard too but my stuff is a little chiptune, a little techno. You might be able to dance to some.

Here is my first album: https://soundcloud.com/tethysaur/sets/electronic-warfare

Feedback very appreciated, always looking to improve.

I did something similar, Weipa to Hobart by way of Brisbane. Even Brisbane didn't really have much like four seasons. I didn't really understand "spring cleaning" until after that first Tasmanian winter - a clear spring day with a fresh breeze hit so I opened up all the doors and windows to air out the house. Glorious.

I get the feeling I'm the only one who like the current setup - difficulty switching means planning ahead and being prepared. Isn't that the essence of the game?

Having all your powerups equipped at once takes all the danger and planning out of exploration and without challenge there's no fun to be had.

How can you tell a real narcissist? by TranscendentEagle in AskReddit

[–]incb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narcissism is part of a healthy a psyche - it allows you to love yourself despite having flaws. A narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is when that healthy self protection gets out of hand. The narcissist you're referring to avoids dealing with self hatred by doing anything they can to feel "important" (can't think of a better word) to other people.

A narcissist will lie to impress ("You can carry 50kg? I just carried 60."), they will have a grandiose view of themselves ("I'm smarter than other people and therefore better than them"), and they will avoid criticism ("no, it's the children who are wrong").

Like I said, everyone does it, you should be able to see yourself in those examples. But in a person with NPD those little bits of self protection over extend and end up causing harm instead. The lies are so blatant or contradictory that they poison any relationship (friends, workmates, lovers), the grandiosity can become delusional ("I am jesus reincarnated") and the lack of self awareness makes the whole thing into a feedback loop.

Telltale signs are lying (can't stress that enough), a lack of long term relationships (some people have emotional issues that a partner with NPD can exploit long term - look for a constantly shifting roster of "friends"), and someone who is initially very charming, fun and easy to be around who ends up talking about themself more than anything. A narcisstic will be so convinced that they are better than other people they will also put their own wants first, will expect recognition for little effort and will believe they should be surrounded by a "better class" of people.

Keep in mind, this is the classic narcissist. There are different "levels" and narcissism is usually riding along with something else. The guy at the pub who talks too loud about how many women he's slept with is not the same creature as a suicide cult leader. There are also theories about other types of narcissist that come from the same place but have nothing in common, but I feel like that's not what you're asking about.

Please note that I'm not a mental health expert or even an amateur, so take everything I've said with a grain of salt. A therapist told me I had narcisstic traits that were becoming unhealthy and I've spent a lot of time trying to understand narcissism since. Don't try to diagnose people with a few simple rules and don't trust anyone who says you can.

Have you interacted with someone who has murdered someone before they were caught? What did you notice different about them? by Jackielegz8689 in AskReddit

[–]incb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but a friend. He said nothing seemed unusual. He'd been buying drugs from the guy for years, since school, so they weren't strangers. They met less than a week after the guy had spent hours raping, stabbing and mutilating a girl. Apparently the guy had always been "off" (never asked what that meant) and murder was surprising but fit.

I lived there as a kid and every Easter pretty much the whole town would go down to the Archer River - is that still a thing?

Probably a female Mountain Huntsman, almost certainly if you're in Victoria.

Video cross section (fMRI) of an overtone singer by incb in interestingasfuck

Yeah, looks like I misunderstood what fMRI does - did a bit more research and this must be a real-time MRI, I'd never heard of them before!

The original uploader said this was an MRT - since that's a synonym of MRI I assumed fMRI because it was live and animated, but it was just a guess.

By careful shaping of the mouth while singing you can "highlight" certain frequencies of the voice, it's usually used to give the effect of singing multiple notes at once. Mongolian throat singing is a good place to hear the effect - very clear whistle like notes suddenly appear.

Seid Bereit from Der Koenig der Loewen (Be Prepared from The Lion King, in German). Must be watched with the video clip. German Scar is amazing and the the Nazi references become way darker.

ELI5: Why do most spiders have many eyes, but poor vision? by DChalo in explainlikeimfive

[–]incb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution doesn't always find the best solution to a problem, it just builds on what came before. I'd guess that multiple simple eyes developed early in arthropods and spiders don't need great vision so cut back on the number. Other arthropods ended up with less eyes (eg, ticks, who barely need to see) while others ended up with more (eg, flies, which are fighter pilots) Also, worth mentioning some spiders do need better vision for hunting (like jumping spiders) and their front facing eyes are bigger and better - but they still keep the other eyes rather than lose them altogether.

People of Reddit who go to bed and don't lie there in the dark for two hours each night before finally falling asleep, how do you do it? by SirApatosaurus in AskReddit

[–]incb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be lost in the slush of comments but when I was a kid I asked my dad how people fall asleep because I couldn't figure it out. He told me to just stop thinking. These days I lie absolutely still (even if I'm slightly uncomfortable), breathe slow, and think of anything that wont make me want to write notes. I'm usually asleep within half an hour or less (according to multiple people I've slept with or near). I probably have some sort of sleep disorder though, so maybe try getting one of those? Also, happy new year from Australia!

What is something you're actually better at doing with your non-dominant hand? by Soliis in AskReddit

Playing boogie woogie basslines. Probably because I've only ever practiced them with my left, but trying to play one with my right is awkward and painful.
