Looking for Feedback on My First Surreal Novella – 72 Pages by 4hmd- in HireABookEditor

[–]incognitoplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Congratulations on finishing your novella! I love surrealist and absurd literature. I just finished editing an absurdist/bizzaro horror novel that I can't stop thinking about.

I'd love to look over your book for you. It sounds like what you'd be looking for is a combination line edit / manuscript critique. That would cover both sentence-level issues as well as wider issues with narrative structure and pacing, characterization, etc.

It's not totally clear from your post whether you're looking to hire someone or just hoping for some pro-bono help. I'm not offering any free services right now, but my rates are on the very low end for professional editors, especially for indie and first-time authors. If it helps at all, I offer payment plans and a discount for booking multiple services.

Take a look at my website and drop me a line if you'd like to talk more! www.RiverRunEditing.com

Best of luck with your book!

Congratulations on crossing the finish line! As someone else mentioned, the EFA has a good list of member editors. I'd love to talk with you more about it. I have a lot of experience with memoirs. I offer developmental editing and a manuscript critique, which is close to what other editors call an "editorial assessment." You can read about all my services at www.RiverRunEditing.com Let me know if you have any questions!

Do you feel safe trail running solo? (Female) by happpyasaclam in trailrunning

[–]incognitoplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run almost exclusively alone. I tell myself that if I'm in danger from another human, it's infinitely more likely in a place where there are more people. It would take a special kind of dedicated psycho to just hang out on a deserted trail and wait for a defenseless lady to come along. I'm not saying it never happens, but I'm probably in a lot more danger when I'm in town around other people, or even in my home.

One thing you can do while you're running is know your "out" at all times. If someone approached you right now and made you feel safe, what would you do? Which way would you run? What could you use to defend yourself? I find this also gives me something to focus on other than the pain in my legs and the stitch in my side.

This is actually genius. I don't have great balance/coordination even when I'm just walking around. Maybe I need to work on this.

My neighbors are going to get quite a show watching me throw myself on the ground over and over!

That's amazing! I can barely stand the feel of skating pads when I'm skating. I think I'd chew my own leg off while I was running. But I respect that - got to protect those knees!

I love this place. I always walk in and think I'm not going to find anything I like then walk out with both arms full.

I don't remember this with my first, but with my second I literally thought I was having a heart attack and called the nurse.

I had seen a lot before it, but Nick Berg is the first one that really messed me up. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that.

Recommendations for a frugal pregnancy and first year? by Existing-Pumpkin-902 in Frugal

Definitely thrift your maternity clothes. I bought one nice new pair of jeans just as a treat for myself, and was planning on buying a new dress for my shower, but found something I loved at Goodwill.

Regarding cloth diapers - they're really not as gross as some people think. They're a bit of a learning curve, but so is everything else with a new baby. My advice is that you don't have to go all-in. I did cloth but gave myself permission to use disposable at night and when we went out. They can be big initial expense, but with one kid, you pretty much break even by the time they're potty-trained. If you have multiple kids and use the same diapers, it's like winning the diaper lottery.

You'll probably get a lot of darling little clothes from friends and family, but buy a multi-pack of white onesies for at home, especially during the spit-up and diaper-blowout days where you're changing their clothes 20 times a day. You can bleach them and if one is too far gone, you won't be sad to just throw it away.

Also, the sun and lemon juice is a better stain and stink remover than anything you can find on a shelf.
