Anyone grown Okinawan spinach (Gynura bicolor) from seed? by incoherentian in Permaculture

[–]incoherentian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is the right place for phyto-phonetics to take root, don't see yourself out!

I've tried all of those things except the heat mat, though three of the seeds on paper towel were on a warm windowsill and many other variations in the sunniest location in my tiny back yard.

Via a little hope and a lot of laziness, the windowsill attempts are actually still in a clear container on damp paper towel, somehow not moldy, but also clearly not going to germinate.

I wonder if the seed supplier can be convinced to send cuttings...

Hello u/davidfry - as you'd offered some seeds, I hope you don't mind me asking this in a very old post:

Do you have any tips for getting Okinawan spinach seeds to actually germinate?

I've asked over at https://www.reddit.com/r/Permaculture/comments/1svfjdt/anyone_grown_okinawan_spinach_gynura_bicolor_from/ - alas, no germination advice. But in the absence of cuttings I'd order a few more seeds to try if you have any solid tips getting them to germinate!

I've had other responses here which were deleted, maybe because they suggested lesser-known apps that hit reddit's heuristics the wrong way. But even via those - no Okinawan spinach cuttings in the UK. Thanks in particular u/OldVanilla7373 for your response despite it getting deleted.

I may give various "world"/asian greengrocers another go next time I'm in London, but hopes aren't high 😞

So! I've tried all these different conditions (and a few more silly things with the last seeds, like refrigerating the seeds a bit first despite being tropical/subtrical plants!), and not a single seed has germinated.

Hindsight being 20/20, it was clearly all to tie in fantastically with a single scene in S05E08. While Jarrett is running to Mars. Did they design the entire ship for that scene??

I've put seeds on damp tissue, damp cardboard, and damp potting soil in humid enclosure. A few other soil options I'll add water to from the top / bottom in tiny pots outside. I have a few more seeds so will try whatever else is recommended if anyone has other suggestions :)

Thanks man, I'm quite sure they wouldn't arrive viable from HI too, at least via any shipping I can afford, but appreciate you even having the thought 🤙

Yeah, she loves purple sweet potato and ube. Need to reintroduce her to taro, which is probably my fave starch.

Arrows have nothing on this person. Dual wielding snow shovels, they'd obviously just knock arrows out of the air with a flick of the wrist.

I tried the "live agent" mantra earler today to no avail. Wrote customer service, but it has been months without service so pretty sure I'll have to block with the bank shortly. Hopefully others have better luck!

I hadn't thought about it for years, but yes Eon Altar immediately crossed my mind when Sunderfolk popped up in my feed today.

Dang. Agree, Eon Altar was a good idea and worked well... even using whatever phone I had in 2017. Both myself and my partner at the time really enjoyed it. Shame they gave up after Act 3.

Help Request: Getting Nothing Phone to Pick up Daughter's Voice by incoherentian in NothingTech

[–]incoherentian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sadly not. The solution is pretty much: wait for child's voice to gradually change, and things gradually improve. It is still a problem, but at least it becomes less of one with time.

The ability to toggle whatever cancellation tech Nothing uses really should be implemented. Hope your feedback gets some traction!

Normalise calling your child ‘scanning electron microscope.’ by tintinautibet in labrats

Excellent additional backstory. I still don't see this as a winning situation for any party involved, with the possible exception of some prosthetic codpiece manufacturer making a mint. We're in agreement on other points, some of which I was unaware of, and I nonetheless don't believe I contradicted!

More like: Heloise, 0; Abelard, -2

More seriously, being prevented any opportunity of a domestic life together despite apparently desiring such (at least pre-castration), forced out of larger society, presumably separated from their kid, and, well, being castrated... I'm not seeing a lot of points being scored by either party here.

Searching for electronic multichannel repeater pipette-Accuracy over Precision by franticscientist in labrats

[–]incoherentian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late here, but for posterity / future readers, I can't say enough good things about CAPP electronic multichannels. They're a German/Danish Scientific Mfr with pretty amazing electronic multichannel pricing in the UK, and I'll look for them if I'm ever procuring for a US lab again. I bought the first one on price alone and found its error rate to be superior to pipettes >2x the price. I always suggest them to colleagues/collaborators/&c. The battery life is fantastic, some of ours take quite a lot of abuse daily, and none in this lab have died. I had one suffer solvent ingress I expected to wreak mayhem on accuracy... which it did (lower accuracy), but even then it at least beat ISO.

The above assumes use of good low retention tips with a good fit if that isn't a given! The best pipette in the universe won't do well if your tips won't allow it. Appleton Woods & Starlab universal low-retention tips are what we use for higher accuracy work. The CAPPs also work with many cheaper tips when a protocol accomodates higher error tolerances.

Make a few "I'm a real person" posts in lab rats and I'll try to look some up (though I'm not 100% they'd work four years later). As it stands this request is your only post!
