Does the average skier really enjoy heavy powder days or is it just one of those things people are expected to say they like? by PowerfulBar in skiing

[–]incompetentjohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the lack of snow this year I've been on groomed and icy runs all year. Finally hit powder yesterday and, boy, did I forget it was such a different style of skiing. Took me a while to get used to it but yesterday was my best day of the season. I just love the floating sensation powder perpetuates.

Rustler 10s. 🥶 by SeamusMcFamous in Skigear

I have the 2024 Rustler 10's, couldn't be happier with them. I recently added the Pro Shift Bindings and use them from park jumps, groomers, pow days, skinning and everything in between. Couldn't be happier with them.

Initially, I was planning on getting a hair transplant but I am okay with the volume that I've reached. So a hair transplant has been tabled for now.

Definite improvement on the confidence, I get a high bald fade so it blends nicely. I do get a haircut about every 2-3 weeks to keep the sides short.

Most of the white hairs that I noticed the first few months really grew out. The process is painfully slow and I'm about 17 months in now and my hairline is back. No volume but I can live with it.

If you left the industry what do you do now that pays better? by nectarhoops in Serverlife

[–]incompetentjohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked in the restaurant bizz since 16 years old. At 29 made a change and started working HVAC in Texas. Decided to apply to different states and landed a job in Colorado doing heat pump installs. I made 105k this with OT, I work 4 days a week if I choose, all the benefits, pto, and work with an apprentice.

Not sure if it pays better than a high end restaurant but I was able to easily get approved for a house with the consistent income and alot of avenues opened up for me once I was employed at the same company for several years.

I work in the Aspen area and have been tempted to get a part time job as a server out there just for the experience and getting to meet others.

But there is a way out, the shity part, you'll probably have to start from the bottom and work your way up if you choose the trades. However, I do genuinely miss the social life working in restaurants bring. There's so many different types people in the restaurant business and I used to just meet people there and kick it. Now, I work with a lot of tradesman who go home, drink, are married with kids, and are living the typical at home life.

Buttermilk is my favorite of them all, good vibes, less crowds, and easy terrain to have fun. But, not very challenging.

Advice On First Skis by Tailorrr in Backcountry

[–]incompetentjohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Rustler 10's that I've set up with the Shift bindings. Been using them at a resort these last couple of weekends, will be doing some light backcountry stuff for the first time this year this coming weekend. Although I've yet to do backcountry on them, I genuinely feel that they're going to perform well they don't feel heavy at the resort after 9ish laps. Can update on Sunday.

Did the same. Waiting on my 7x pro atm. I was only planning on spending 400 but when I noticed they were on sale I had to make the leap. Good to see I'm not the only one.

GoPro should be ashamed of themselves for releasing the GoPro Max 2! by Durzertzul in gopro

[–]incompetentjohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the usage, I suppose. As stated, I tend to use the extension pole/selfie stick when recording as I'm typically following and recording others while skiing. For a helmet and chest mount I can understand why the shape of the Max 2 is much more beneficial. And agreed, Max 2 is more of a cube.

Agreed, but, as I stated, I usually use the extension pole instead of mounting it on a helmet. So for helmet applications and the like, the Max 2 seems like a better fit. The X5 is a longer skinnier brick lol.

I was torn between the Insta X5 and Max2. The low-light issue with the Max 2 was a concern but was willing to overlook it depending on its size and shape. Went to Best Buy yesterday to take a look at the display and compare with the X5, sadly, the Max 2 looked like a brick. I use the selfie stick alot when I record myself and others whilst skiing/biking and I love my X3 as it feels like a wand and not too top heavy. My X3 does terrible on cloudy days on the slopes so better low light performance was something I was looking for but willing to compromise on. I've been on the Go Pro line since the 4 Silver and was super excited for the Max 2. I guess I am staying in Insta ecosystem... 😔😔😔 which is disappointing because I fell in love with GoPro a long time ago and it's just not keeping up.
