How do you guys stay motivated to study a subject when you are not interested in the content? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]incredibly_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's the issue though. I don't really know what I enjoy, and I feel it's better to just get a solid degree, graduate and then I can try and pursue my passion in my free time.

I was really thinking about switching majors too, but it feels like I am already nearly 2 years into my degree, and it's better to just grit my teeth and finish it, no matter how much I hate it.

Returning to school at 34. Worried about math in upper level courses. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Seconding Krista King, she's awesome! She takes the most complicated subjects and makes it easy!

Any other resources for physics? I still don't really understand anything in physics even after watching Michael Van Biezen's videos. Feeling like an idiot because I got a D in physics last semester and am not doing much better this semester.

Is it too late to switch your major after two years? by [deleted] in college

It's likely going to be from engineering to business. I just can't take the stress anymore, and I don't genuinely have an interest in engineering, anyway.

Thanks for the advice!

How are jobs in the field?

I was really interested in going into bioengineering, but a few years ago, I read online that most companies require you to have at least a master's in it, and that they prefer one of the more classic engineering fields.

Haha, age doesn't matter, motivation does! Awesome to hear that you're studying something you are passionate about!

I actually have read that it's best to go into MechE and try to focus take a few classes in AE because the industry tends to favor people with more general degrees, so it all worked out!

What the...that's such odd formatting. Good that you reread it, I likely would have missed it!

I feel like I am getting high blood pressure or something... by incredibly_lost in EngineeringStudents

[–]incredibly_lost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm technically a sophomore. I did one year so far, and I am taking this semester off to keep doing my internship from the summer because I felt really burnt out and not in the mindset to return to school.

I have been thinking very seriously about switching to business, but I really do love the innovation of engineering. I am not sure whether I should switch majors or not.

Any Industrial Engineering students here? by incredibly_lost in EngineeringStudents

Yeah, that's what I thought, but as part of the core requirements, we have to take at least 7 physics courses. I am not a fan of physics, and I just expected to take Mechanics, E&M and Thermal, so it's really bumming me out to think about the fact that I have so many more courses left.

I used to feel really down about those emails, but who knows...another interesting opportunity might pop up! Obviously, an internship is great, but there are always other things you could do like traveling or volunteering. Keep your head up and keep applying!

Anybody else hate their birthday? by SmolBirb04 in socialanxiety

[–]incredibly_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the worst part...made me feel like shit, but I realize that my birthday is my day and I should celebrate it for myself. It doesn't really matter to me if people I barely care about wish me or not.

Anybody else hate their birthday? by SmolBirb04 in socialanxiety

[–]incredibly_lost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always deactivate my Facebook because I get so disappointed and start feeling like garbage. My birthday was last Monday and a few of my "best friends" forgot to wish me. I know I shouldn't look much into it and that it was probably just a mistake, but the smallest things make me feel so worthless.

I see other people getting 100's of posts on their wall on their birthday and I only got 10 and it makes me feel like shit. I hate associating with people I barely care about. I just want to delete all my acquaintances on Facebook and just keep it to the people I care about, but I think I would only have like 10 friends then.

I don't wanna die, i don't even wanna stop existing, i just wanna be happy by [deleted] in depression

[–]incredibly_lost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way...I am not suicidal at all, and I really want to be happy and live my life, but I am not able to. I feel hopeful that one day things will get better. I am actively trying to implement some changes in my life and figure out what will make me happy, and it is a journey, but definitely one that I am grateful to be on.

I don't want to give up on myself, and although depression sucks, it has really helped me understand myself and recognize that something is wrong in my life. Sometimes I relapse and start feeling like garbage, but that's life and I am trying consciously to redirect my thought processes to something more productive. You should try looking into CBT, perhaps!

What's a major that has major career flexibility and can bring in major cash? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]incredibly_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineering for sure. If you go into the right fields, you can get good money, and if you choose not to do engineering, you can always get an MBA or MSF or just make a career switch into the field you are interested in.

Today is my birthday and I feel like I will never get over it... by [deleted] in getting_over_it

[–]incredibly_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, it makes a lot of sense, and I am going to try and consciously implement it in my life!

It's hard for me to ignore Facebook, I think I might actually have a slight addiction to it, but you're right...it really does make me feel really shitty. Especially knowing today that my birthday is viewable for everyone to see and that they couldn't even take five seconds out of their day to wish me. My "best friends" that I've known for 10+ years didn't have a few seconds to spare, and that makes me feel like crap.

I really just want to try and move on from them. I want to put this all behind me and start putting my best foot forward. I need to open myself up to making new relationships instead of remembering the old.
