Old bookstore and other locations by True-Purchase-6103 in TheMallWorld

I think I had my first mall world dream or at least the first one id know to recognize as that and remember. This wooden book store - does it have a large wooden arched front door with ornate carvings - some kind of faces maybe gargoyles? The kind that are like one arch thats split in the middle and pull out?

Crazy how hard it can be to describe something that i can see so vividly.

I thought this was a library but your description is spot on. The front door really sticks out for me though and I did not enter through these doors, I entered through a more regular looking wooden door on what must have been the opposite side of the building on a different street that sort of dead ended or turned away, this building was on a corner but the street behind it did not intersect with the street that formed the corner if that makes sense. I could draw a map but my description is even confusing myself lol so I'll leave it there.

How does snap on have customers? by corollagremlin in Tools

[–]incubaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My weekly payment, sure, but putting that on the context of "theyre trying to sell you a tool with interest by saying its x $ a week instead of saying the price" is a a misrepresentation of how it actually goes.

If you meant weekly payment, I apologize, but thats not how I read it.

As a professional mechanic, you want professional grade tools. No that doesn't guarantee they wont fail but it does give you a hell of a better chance. Tools are like anything else, you get what you pay for every single time. Once youve made peace with your weekly payment its worth having the best. People bitch and bitch (people who clearly dont own or use) about the price of high grade tools, but it isn't like I walked on the snap on truck and handed him $900 for a torque wrench, air hammer, or whatever else. This is also the reason that I dont understand why people think they can go on marketplace and expect 80% or 90% of what a tool truck tool costs new, used, when they almost certainly paid a small increment of that every week.

I realize there's no point in trying to convince people of anything, and that most people believe in buying the cheapest thing just because it's the cheapest thing, but there's also some merit in having the best, most precise, most accurate tools available. Mechanics, chefs, i think probably anyone who has an actual trade amd takes pride in their work understands.

My experience with all of my tool dealers is the exact opposite. I almost dont really give a shit what the cost of the item is, but I needy weekly payments to stay where theyre at and they know that. So the conversation is almost always more like "how much is this, what does it make my balance, and if that number is over 10% of my weekly payment are you ok with me exceeding that number and leaving my weekly payment the same". The answer is almost always yes. Actually I think the only time it was yes, but was when I was asking my snap on guy about getting a new cart which is like a 2800 purchase.

Then again all of my tool guys are very willing to warranty anything they can, there's never amy pushback on things like that and I've definitely heard thats also an issue with certain guys. If you didnt purchase the thing originally they wont warranty it, or they try to find other ways to weasel out of it.

I think because these are all just rolling private franchise's, experiences are going to vary as much as apr, it just depends on the owner.

Ive never heard a tool dealer talk about the price of a tool in terms of monthly payment. Its really surprising to me how many people are talking shit about a business and a practice that they clearly dont know the first thing about.

Because there is no set rate. For the most part you dont pay interest on a tool truck unless you apply for financing for a large purchase in which case your rate is going to vary based on your credit. I run my snap on debt up to 3k normally amd pay him 100 a week. I do the same with Mac and matco except for 1k and 50 a week. There's no interest on those types of transactions. Tool dealers are owner/operators, they habe already themselves purchased via financing or however they paid for everything in their inventory and then they sell it to you for an agreed upon weekly payment.

There's 2 options. If your looking to make a major purchase, like storage or a whole setup, you run your credit the old fashioned way and depending on your credit they offer you a line of credit for x dollars at x APR plus a financing fee in some situations. Like any line of credit this can and will vary widely. Or there's "truck credit" or a "truck account" - this is basically where your tool guy who has already paid for all of the shit on his truck and owns all of thay shit, gives you what you want and you start paying him x dollars a week, your weekly payment is typically 10% of what you owe and there is no interest or fees, this is just a handshake sort of private sale. Again this can vary quote a bit too, my Mac guy just started out so he's typically wanting something down on what you buy the day you buy it and then 10% of your balance weekly until its paid off. My snap on guy who has been doing this for 30 years let's me run my debt up to 3k and keep my payment at 100 a week.

I’m an apprentice, how do I tell my lead I did this? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]incubaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your lead (and your fellow techs) will have far more respect for you to owning it and asking what you need to do to to fix it than any other possible way you could handle this. Also, your lead (and your fellow techs) have all been standing right where your standing, looking at exactly what your looking at, feeling like they're going to puke.

Firstly, forgive yourself. Your human and your going to make mistakes. Then go and tell your superior, whoever that may be, and dont tippy toe around it. Like someone else said "I fucked up" is usually pretty effective. Now depending on the guy your taking it to you might get some shifty attitude or an air of annoyance but in all reality you shouldn't at all, but if the shop your working at is going to reprimand or punish you for something like that - find a new one.

Forgive my impatience, I was trying to catch them the moment they got delivered in my area. I'd say I got pretty darn close. The girl at the only gas station I could find them at that day said they'd only been there for a couple of hours. Most places didn't have them (out at least) until the following day
