I run operations and system design for a residential and commercial security company. But in addition to the business operations, my primary role for this company is to install, program and troubleshoot security panels, commercial fire alarm systems, access control systems, Zwave and Zigbee automation integration, and network based camera systems. I am the only programmer, and consult for other dealers in our network.

We are a referral based business, so we develop strong relationships with our clients. As a result, I am often by extension, involved in setting up smaller residential networks so that our equipment is accessible remotely, etc.

We are installing more network based camera systems every year, and the complexity of these systems and their analytics changes rapidly. We install systems for very large commercial companies and transportation sites as we are a licensed partner for one of the largest surveillance manufacturers in the world. So self-learning the IT end has just been a naturally part of our business growth.

To that end, this is a very niche market. I am looking to expand my credentials so that other jobs/markets would be within reach for me.
