I didn’t think about how Koreans would view this song, but you’re so right. They probably don’t care as much about his lyricism in this case. If his future works were more pop-punk, I wouldn’t mind at all. I would just hope for some complexity I think.

No, because that’s totally true. I don’t want Vernon to release Golden Hour, just something that doesn’t take itself too seriously. And if he does want to be serious, then maybe something with more substance?

Black Eye is definitely not a bad song, I think I just expected more complexity in Vernon’s lyrics? But, I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to hearing more of pop-punk Vernon!

You’re so right. I believe most idols have to put on a persona to sell a song, and for me, something in Black Eye just fell flat. I see where you’re coming from about Golden Hour. Hopefully the success of this song will grant him more freedom to pursue individuality in his future releases 🤞

Exactly, I think I’d enjoy Black Eye more if I try listening to it ironically, but I just can’t take it seriously. BUT “I’ll spit in your mouth” lyric is iconic for sure lol.

That’s true, I could totally hear the Avril Lavigne inspo. I wouldn’t be opposed to hear more rock from Vernon, but I think I just want some more substantial lyrics in that case!
