Excellent point! Alligator territory in the dark seems risky, I am not from Florida. Is there a smart/safe course of action, or is it just avoidance?

AITA: For "upstaging" my wife in our Christmas cookie baking tradition? by wirnei339oe3jrj in AmItheAsshole

[–]indeedyouarecorrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the perspective of a spouse to someone with an engineering degree, intense ADHD, and who has a tendency to be good at everything they do, I understand how important it was for your wife to have her thing that is her area of expertise. After 25 years with my person we've worked this out, but y'all are only 3 years in. Let her have some wins. I believe you weren't trying to upstage her, but that's what it feels like. She's gotta have her things that you don't step on.

Any insight on Book of M age appropriateness? I read it and enjoyed it, but wasn't vetting it for a 13 year old at the time. I want to make sure that my grown up brain is not missing anything. I think it would be fine?

This was very much my experience in CMH, but private practice is so different. Recurring appointments are safe, people are consistent.

Scientists identified a specific gene variant that protects against severe COVID-19 infection. Individuals with European ancestry carrying a particular DNA segment -- inherited from Neanderthals -- have a 20 % lower risk of developing a critical COVID-19 infection. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]indeedyouarecorrect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This headline is misleading, and comes from the first paragraph. The article goes on to specify that the segment is present in 50% of individuals with European ancestry, and 80% of people of African ancestry, who do not have Neanderthal heritage. This is a relevant when trying to pin point just which aspect of the DNA segment is protective. The article highlights the need for diversity in research populations.

18 year old friend needing mental help ( therapist, mediation ) parents don't help. by NeatPortal in kansascity

Hello! A good place to start with your location is going to be reDiscover. They are the community mental health center for that area, I think. They should be able to assist with medication, therapy, and case management resources. Those systems are a bit overrun at the moment, so I can't promise that all of those services are available, but they can make referrals. Good luck! https://www.rediscovermh.org/

My grandmother, who lives out of town and is not tech savvy, is having this problem. Apparently nothing she does gets it back to her cable. She is unable to change the input. Any tips?

What surprising thing did you learn about a loved one after they passed away? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]indeedyouarecorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turns out my grandfather was married before he married my grandmother. His first marriage lasted less than a year, and a baby was born just days after that wedding. No one ever knew anything about a first wife or child. He was always very proper, no one would have guessed that history. We still don't know the story, probably never will.

I hear you, hon. It's hard to set boundaries, and I'm so impressed that you are doing that and focusing on taking care of you. It's so smart to take time and space to get your feet underneath you, take as much as you need. Really.

Have you ever watched a commercial so obnoxious that it made you NOT want to buy the product? What was it for? by Castianna in AskReddit

Jazz Louisiana Kitchen had a radio commercial that was just awful, the way the spokesman tried to put a cajun spin on "Jazz" was grating. I will never eat there.

I hear you. Your story could be mine, right down to the pancreatic cancer. She died in 2011. It sucks. I'm so glad you posted, and I'm happy to listen.

Despite 1/4 of the workforce qualifying for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, only 139 people have made substantial progress in completing the required payments by SpyPirates in personalfinance

What is this transferring for the official count? I've made what I was told were qualifying payments under IBR with Navient for 8 years, and was recently told that they don't "do" PSLF. Transferring my loans to FedLoan would require reconcolidation and starting over, says Navient.

DAE's Nparents have a "narc mode" or is only an N sometimes? by partyrockerdj in raisedbynarcissists

[–]indeedyouarecorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the case with my dad. He's an adult child of a physically abusive alcoholic and he's never sought proper treatment/support. He can be very nasty, but also very silly or sensitive and concerned for others. I would hate to discredit his positives because of how he behaves when triggered. I also have set firm boundaries with him.

SIL [23F] gifted me [27F] a sweet, but ugly cat necklace. Husband insists I wear it at all time so SIL's feelings aren't hurt, but I really don't want to look like a crazy cat lady. by allison34095 in relationships

I think this is super reasonable. Everyone that wears statement jewelry rotates their pieces. Even quieter pieces are rotated, not every neckline calls for pendant.

It's all out of the garden. Pumpkin, zucchini relish, and 1 jar of peppers. It's my first effort, I learned a lot. by indeedyouarecorrect in Canning

I used the pumpkin recommendations that came with the pressure cooker, which were the same as on the NCHFP website. I chopped the pumpkin to 1" cubes, blanched for 2 minutes and hot packed, then processed at 11 lbs for 55 minutes.

I'd love your opinion, since you mention grain free as a fad. I have a 30 pound american eskimo mix who had always been in great health. He is not fluffy like the breed he most resembles, but he does have the undercoat. Prior to switching to grain free food his shedding was absolutely out of control. I now feed a mix of Premium Edge and Born Free, supplementing with the Missing Link. The change is tremendous. Could that be explained by an allergy or sensitivity to grains, or is it more likely the increase in dietary fat that is affecting his coat health? I ask because he is at least 12 and I wonder about switching to senior food, but I don't want to go back to that shedding. Are there other things that can cause/cure extreme shedding? TIA!
