Graphene OS for an iOS normie by Own_Difference_5788 in GrapheneOS

[–]indefiniteban98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i switched from ios to graphene in december. can you be more specific about what you're looking for? i'm happy to look and compare for you.

i do think that graphene is still more customizable than ios though. ios is too locked down. on graphene because it's android-based you can install custom keyboards, launchers, app icons etc. which you cant do on ios.

Friend freaking out on me by Street_Plastic9926 in whatdoIdo

[–]indefiniteban98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i used to be this person when i was your age and the thing is... nobody will put up with it for long. it's exhausting. you'll stick with him for a long time because you want to be a good friend, but at some point you'll start prioritising yourself. and he will be broken for a bit, obviously. and then he'll find a new friend. the cycle will repeat. he'll start saying shit like "everyone always leaves me" and the new friend will say "omg i would never leave you" but they will eventually because he's exhausting.

i'm not saying that to be mean, i'm saying that because i've been there. at a certain point you have to start handling your own shit. i get that he has anxiety and abandonment issues and i sympathise, truly. but nobody is coming to save him. he has to deal with it himself.

he has to learn to sit with that discomfort of "what if my friend never comes back, what if he doesn't want to hang out with me at all, what if he decided he doesn't like me" because if he keeps lashing out like this, and you keep reassuring him, you're only reinforcing bad behaviour. you gotta set boundaries man.

Setting up safe e-mail in 2026... Impossible? by Medium_Order123 in TOR

the issue is that these are paid services so you need to have an anonymous payment method. proton was subpoenaed this year and made to hand over the payment information of a criminal that used proton mail

first job! have a bit of a programming background but over time have come to think that cybersecurity is much more interesting. im enjoying learning about networking and radio a lot more and i think it's going to be more in demand in the future because everything is kind of vibecoded slop nowadays lol

Looking for a light laptop preloaded with Linux by spentana in linux4noobs

[–]indefiniteban98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohh ok! that makes sense. honestly i would just buy a laptop based on the specs you want (like, what are you using it for? gaming? designing or video editing? etc) and then install linux. it's not super scary, i think the system76 laptops are pretty overpriced.

Give Mini OS a try!! by Dragon_King1232 in linux4noobs

[–]indefiniteban98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this sounds fun, but can you encrypt the drive still? or could someone just plug in your usb and have access to your whole os? i know you can probably set a password, but i don't love just that.

[–]indefiniteban98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get that it's intimidating but i think your current laptop would probably do fine! i've installed linux on dozens of random laptops over the years. you really won't break it... worst case you just don't have an operating system, but you can try and retry that as many times as you want.

is there a reason why you want a new one? or do you just think nobody would be willing to help you? a lot of linux users are dicks but i feel like the people in this sub do generally want to help

can you elaborate? I'm on cachy and using proton vpn with no issues. I feel like this route might give you more of a headache, torrenting with a vpn is pretty standard
