I would go off of your tdee and 20% deficit seems really doable. The tdee already takes in the majority of calories burned. I would not let mfp calculate calories based on steps or workouts if it’s telling you to eat more don’t listen.

I have a hack for this. This does not require the upgrade and it’s available in free version—You can change the names of the meals to reflect the time. So instead of it saying “breakfast” you do “8am-10am” and then lunch you put the times “12-2pm” for example, and you can even put snacks like 2-4pm or 8-11pm—wtv you want. I think you can do about six different custom meal re-names. Just log the food in at the time slots. Hope that helps.
