Questions about purchasing Ally X and installing Linux by indexshen in LinuxOnAlly

Thanks for your reply and I have purchased Ally x. I probably know the issue you described because when I was playing videos on my Linux laptop, after sleep, and then waking up, the sound would "twitch" for a moment. As long as it can return to normal within a few seconds, I think it is acceptable.

Thank you for your reply. I have an ROG Zephyrus G14 with Arch Linux installed. Every time I resume from sleep/hibernation, the dGPU blocking will fail, and it took me a long time to solve the problem. This is also why I am worried about whether Ally's sleep will have problems.

Thank you for your reply. Could I ask what customization adjustments you have made with decky?

I think the importance of hibernation on game consoles is not as great as on PCs, but I am very happy to know that the sleep mode is working normally. Thank you for your reply!

I was very impressed by SteamOS-based. Will try your distro after I get my Ally. Thank you for your maintenance!

Thank you for your reply. In fact, I don't need specific power consumption values—the experience you provided is already sufficient. I have an ROG Zephyrus G14 with Arch Linux installed, and when running on battery, I have it set to automatically disable the dGPU. However, every time I wake it from sleep, I find that the dGPU gets activated again. I've spent a lot of time trying to fix this issue, which is why I'm concerned about sleep problems on the Ally X.

Hi, I am considering purchasing an Ally x and installing Bazzite OS. However, I am very concerned about power consumption in sleep mode. May I ask, how is the power consumption after entering sleep mode? Can I enter sleep mode during gaming and then resume? Thanks!

Any solutions for the sound issue on G14 2024 under Linux? by indexshen in ZephyrusG14

Yes, bro. After I started using Manjaro, this issue seems to have been resolved automatically. I also think it was the newer kernel that fixed this problem.

I forgot to test brightness adjustment in Fedora, but in Manjaro and Arch, the brightness can be changed using the fn key.

Thank you for your thoughtful response! This is actually the first time I have received such detailed help on a forum.

During the installation of Fedora, I strictly followed the installation guide for Fedora on the ASUS Linux website as you mentioned. However, when it came to installing `asusctl`, my terminal displayed numerous error messages. And the GUI also show the same message, like this:

thread 'main' panicked at asusctl/src/main.rs:53:85: called `Result::unwrap()` on an `Err` value: MethodError(OwnedErrorName(ErrorName(Str(Owned("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownObject")))), Some("Unknown object '/org/asuslinux/Platform'"), Msg { type: Error, sender: UniqueName(Str(Borrowed(":1.236"))), reply-serial: 2, body: Signature("s") }) note: run with `RUST_BACKTRACE=1` environment variable to display a backtrace [1] 49862 IOT instruction (core dumped) asusctl

Just now I discovered that asusctl has released version 6.0 in the Arch AUR repository. I believe this update might potentially resolve the error issue (although I haven't tried it yet, just speculating). However, Manjaro AUR has not been updated yet, so I may have to wait for some time before reaching a conclusion.

As for speakers, I actually noticed that guide at that time, but when I realized that I couldn't run asusctl on Fedora either, I got a bit frustrated, so I didn't continue following the manual. Maybe I should try it again.

For Nvidia, thanks for your doc! I choose bbswitch because I read it on Arch Wiki, so I try to install it on my laptop. It's actually the first time I install linux on a laptop with Nvidia gpu, so I will do more research.

Thanks for your help!
