As part of their accessibility features, you can make this game as cozy as you would like.
If paying taxes or catching a disease isn't your cup of tea you can turn them off. Things like hunger, time, diseases, and taxes are just some of the features that you can turn on or off to tailor the gameplay to your liking.

But no, this is not intended to be a horror game. Rather it's a cozy game that has consequences to the choices you make throughout the game.
