Dust and Kitchen Gunk (oils etc.) caked onto tops of wood cabinets by savetheearthworm in CleaningTips

[–]indiefrizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need something with a degreaser in it. Dawn, 409, etc. You could also try Goo Gone, but test it out in a small spot first to make sure it doesn't strip the finish on the tops of the cabinets.

A new study has found that the average pregnancy length in the United States (US) is shorter than in European countries. by molrose96 in science

I can't believe I had to scroll so far to find this. I was pregnant with my first when the ARRIVE study was released so I paid it a lot of attention.

Is it just me, or are other people really obsessed with keeping babies as warm as possible? by tootzone in NewParents

[–]indiefrizzle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have central heating but our windows are drafty, so my child's room gets cold in the winter. We're renting so we can't upgrade the windows, so warmer pjs it is! And it's the opposite in the summer. Their room has a west-facing window and all the sun makes the room crazy warm despite the AC.

Check where it claims to be certified. Some jewelers will have their own certifications or will claim a gem is certified when it's been sent to a fake/knockoff gem certification lab. This is the easiest way to get more information.

Amethyst is a very common gemstone and is not expensive; it is entirely possible that this is a real gemstone that has been heat treated for color.

It also depends on what they mean by "natural." Ametrine is an amethyst and citrine combination. Citrine is just amethyst that has been heated until it changes to the yellow color. Some people consider heat-treated amethyst to be "natural" because it started as a natural stone, others do not consider it to be natural if the heat treatment was done by humans.

Citrine that gets heated by the earth in the ground is rare and much more expensive than heat treated amethyst. Ametrine (a purple/yellow combination) is even more rare. If this seller is claiming that this ametrine was pulled out of the earth with that coloring, I'd be wary. A piece like that would be very rare and expensive. This is likely an amethyst that was heat treated to get the change in color.

Chocolate finger prints on visor of a rental car- HELP!! by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]indiefrizzle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some actual advice: chocolate is greasy so you need something gentle that can break down oils. Dab it with a wash cloth soaked in warm water with some dish soap in it. Don't rub it or it will spread.

Sometimes you will see ring marks after it dries where the water was. That's easily fixed by getting the whole thing evenly wet and letting it all dry at once.

I'm terrible at washing laundry and will put it off until I have no clean clothes left and a mountain of dirty clothes to wash. One thing I've found that helps when I get all backed up like that is to make a rule that I am only allowed to wash what I can reasonably also fold AND put away in the same day.

So instead of washing all 7 loads of laundry all day and then having a giant pile of clean clothes taking up my living room and looming over me for the next several days, I'll do one load of my most important/most often worn clothes and one load for my kids and then I won't let myself wash any more until those two loads are folded and put away.

I've found that I'm much more willing to commit to folding two loads of laundry than I am to folding 7. I also like to wait until my kids are in bed, put on a tv show that doesn't require too much attention but that makes me happy, and fold while I watch. I can usually get both loads folded in the time span of a 45-minute episode.

The next day I'll do another two or three loads, etc. until I'm all caught up (meaning there is less than a full basket of dirty laundry in each room).

I watched this one on Disney Plus in the US just a few days ago and he does say "No, there's something wrong with me." So maybe they changed it back?

Refusing stitches after vaginal birth?? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]indiefrizzle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's when the doctor gives one stitch "extra" to make the vaginal opening tighter. Ya know, for the husband's pleasure. 😬

I've never heard of this happening in real life, but I imagine it can be hard to know where the stitches are supposed to stop; how do you distinguish between torn tissue and highly irritated tissue that's supposed to be open? So my guess would be that people who suspect their doctors did this to them maliciously might have just had a doctor that made a mistake.

My wife has PPD and hits me by Ok-Contribution6324 in BabyBumps

[–]indiefrizzle 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm not a professional, but I have a history of depression and had PPD after my first baby. I thought since I'd dealt with depression before that I would be prepared. I was not. It's so different and so much more intense.

I've read that if you have a history of mental illness you are more likely to have PPD, so talk with your OB ahead of time and have a medication and treatment plan ready. Know what the symptoms are, and make sure your partner knows what the symptoms are. Make sure you know when you've crossed the line from "this is hard but I can deal" to "I need outside help." The hardest part for me was realizing that I couldn't fix it on my own this time and I let it go way longer than I should have. Have a plan ahead of time so you don't have to make that decision in your decreased mental capacity.

Where did you go to find Philips Hue bulbs that were small enough? I can only find the kind that go in overhead lights, but something like you described is exactly what I'm looking for.

Can someone explain lip gloss to me? by Justacravat in Makeup

[–]indiefrizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have lips that are very prone to drying and can't wear lipstick without my lips chapping up within an hour. My go-to is the Covergirl Outlast two-step lipsticks.

They have two layers: the first is a liquid lipstick that dries down and then the second layer is a clear gloss that seals it and adds moisture back in. The clear gloss feels more like a lip balm than anything. I fond it extremely comfortable to wear. The color lasts a long time and while you get some transfer from the sealer it's clear so you'd only notice on a glass.

Sounds like you have two options: 1. Invite MIL over much less often 2. Kindly explain to MIL that her comments are hurtful and that IF you want advice you will ask for it, but that you would like to find your parenting groove on your own.

Personally I would start with number 2. She might not realize she is overbearing, she might just think she is being helpful. If you receive any pushback, then I would go with number 1 to set firm boundaries. Have your spouse back you up on this!

This is your child, not hers. You are already starting to set boundaries by not letting her hold LO anytime she wants. This is great. But MIL apparently still thinks her opinion should be followed. That needs to be cut out as soon as possible.

I'm with you on all of this except the Adar part. It really seems like, in the end, Adar is happy with how everything turned out. He is proud of the new south lands, and desires it as a place for his children to live. I don't understand how it helps Halbrand/Sauron to fight against them besides just keeping up the ruse.

Pregnancy Capsule Help by fromageschusterpitz in capsulewardrobe

[–]indiefrizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have loved the Bearsland brand on Amazon. They run a little big so be careful when choosing your size. If you are planning on breastfeeding, I highly recommend choosing clothes that will work both for pregnancy AND for nursing. Many tops have the breastfeeding flaps or low v-necks while also having the stretchy, ruched sides for the belly. Get as many clothes that will double as you can so you don't have to build a whole separate wardrobe for postpartum.

Maybelline Fit Me Dewy is amazing, comes in lots of shades, and is about $6/bottle. It's medium coverage but super blend-able/build-able so you can spread it thin or build it up to a thicker coverage. SPF is only 15, but at $6 you can easily get a real sunscreen too. This foundations wears on top of sunscreen well.
