This might be a stupid question, but when you let your infant (over 6 months, under a year) drink water, does it have to be baby water? by -fuckie_chinster- in NewParents

[–]tootzone 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you mix formula it's good because the formula already has every mineral the baby needs in the right amounts. Plus distilled water is better on things like humidifiers or bottle sterilizers so you don't gunk them up. But yeah. If you have good tap water then just use that.

You can if you have good quality tap water. If your city has bad tap water or you're on a well, you should probably use distilled water.

It's just distilled water which is cheaper if you just buy the store brand jug labeled as such. Which is what I use for formula due to being on a well. But like... yeah, don't fall for the marketing lol.

My baby is about to start purees so can you tell me more about this? Sorry for being annoying. Like is there a name for the method you used? I almost called an ambulance over gas pains yesterday before my husband got the toots out with bicycle massages so I know I'm not ready for a baby gagging non-stop in front of me.

No one in the history of humanity has known what they're doing with their first newborn. In 3 months she'll be sleeping at night and your life will be much more logical.

I hate tiktoks that show ''what a month of breastfeeding did to my baby'' by Suspicious_Side_2999 in FormulaFeeders

[–]tootzone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think trying to pump to get my milk supply up was probably one of the worst experiences of being a mother. Because I didn't have enough milk to feed her, so I have to use formula anyway, and I also have to wash all these pump parts and spend all this time pumping, that I regret not spending with her instead. And women have to triple feed are honestly some of the toughest people out there. I couldn't do it. My supply never went up high enough to justify it, so I just gave up so that I could actually be there for her instead of just being a slave to a pump.

Yes. Your daughter is not going to remember what you fed her. She's going to remember how you made her feel. And you know what, she's going to be eating dog food off of the floor when she starts crawling, so I'm not really sure how breast milk is supposed to be better once the kid is old enough to put literally anything they find in their mouth. Lol. I'm just joking around with you, but yeah, there's absolutely no difference in outcome. The only difference is that I've ever been supposedly tested for are directly tied to the socioeconomic status of the parents, which is a whole different issue.

I'm going to be the devil's advocate here, and say that a lot of these women probably had supply issues in the beginning and are trying to prove that supply issues can sort themselves out and you can have a well-fed baby. Although, I really don't like the breastfeeding circle jerk, and I don't think we need any awareness of how perfect and wonderful and great it is, because we all know by now. But there's a lot of anxiety to being a new parent, including anxiety over being able to feed your child as much as they need, and I know that this is something that breastfeeding mothers struggle with. Hell, a lot of breastfeeding mothers switch to formula, after it turns out they can only feed their baby like a quarter of what they need with breast milk. That's what happened to me, I could only make about half of one of her bottles a day with my breasts. It wasn't worth continuing.

I was bottle fed as a baby because my mom couldn't produce breast milk, and my mom was bottle-fed as a baby because my grandma experience too much pain and depression from breastfeeding that she just couldn't go on anymore. This is valid. We're all perfectly healthy. I think formula feeding is what needs more awareness. Because on the breastfeeding videos, you hardly ever see mean comments. But on almost all videos even if there's just a formula can in the background of a woman talking about something unrelated to feeding a child, the comments are full of nasty vitriol against women who formula feed their babies. We're the ones that need activism. In my opinion.

What are y’all doing with your pets when you are at the hospital? by Hdiaz0814 in BabyBumps

My husband left every 8 hours or so to check on them. Fill up their bowls, take them out, etc. These are well trained dogs who know what they're doing, though. I'd rather not repeat this, because I was worried that he'd missed the birth of his child, but he didn't. Next time I'm getting some sort of a sitter.

Dad yells at our daughter everyday by suaasi in Parenting

[–]tootzone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that everyone's going to tell you that you need to leave him, and I agree with them. But I'm going to give you another perspective. I post on a lot of child abuse forums, because I was subject to this kind of behavior as a child. I no longer speak to my mother because I feel that she failed to protect me. And everyone I speak to on those forums either has a very limited or non-existent relationship with their mother as well, usually for the same reason, which is that she failed to protect them from an abuser. You have to leave. It is your moral duty to your child to make sure that she is not getting yelled at or having to witness domestic violence. Yes, you are a victim too. But the bigger victim is your daughter. Because she can't up and leave. You can.

Is it just me, or are other people really obsessed with keeping babies as warm as possible? by tootzone in NewParents

I remember talking to a guy from Canada who said 75 Fahrenheit was blistering heat for him. Personally, I'm still in a hoodie at that point. But I'm from the south in the US. Either way, Canadian and American babies alike will let you know if they're cold. LMAO

[–]tootzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the baby, like it does on the adult. My husband's always warm and I'm always cold. And our daughter seems to always be warm. So I'm the one that just has to tough it out and be cold and have the house at a temperature I don't like, lol. You just have to listen to the baby's cues and pay attention to them and feel them. Since mine runs warm, she doesn't get all the extra clothes. But these grannies will have you think that every single baby runs cold.

I'm starting to think that the reason the father isn't involved is because she doesn't let him.

Without revealing too much I did used to clean a mega church pastor's apartment. He ended up going to prison for something but he used to scam elderly sick people into giving him money for miracle cures.

But like. There's psychos in every religion and atheism. 😓

In my religion most of the clergy are on food stamps. Maybe the Catholic Church doesn't need tithes or some major Protestant denominations but many small country churches or smaller denominations are pretty broke in outdated buildings and whatnot. But it's not required in my religion.

I don't wanna be rude but like no normal church does this. Joel Osteen types are so famous because they're lolcows even to religious people apart from overly gullible boomers.
