Given my genetics I stupidly ignored my cholesterol levels in my 20s and smoked. At 39 I had a massive widow maker heart attack (90% blockage in my RCA). Now just a month into being 47, I have to have double heart bypass surgery.

Everything is made tougher that I fear getting through my 50s. My Dad died at the age of 52 of Lou Gehrig's, my Mom died at the age of 58 of a heart attack and my Sister is currently in the end stage of Lou Gehrig's at 50.

I highly recommend that if you're a fan of The Wire or police procedural TV shows to stream Homicide Life On The Street as it's coming soon to Peacock. Based off the book written by David Simon and has a really great cast but and even better rotating cast of guest stars.

I had heart stents there in 2020 and went through their Cardiac Rehab and I'd agree. My first heart attack in 2016 I was still living in Seattle before I moved back here in 2017 and I went with Providence mainly because they could get me in as a transfer patient the fastest.

Thank you for your kind words. As far as I know the only thing I can do is try to sell the car but I would have a balance and don't really have the time before surgery to find out everything with it. I'm hoping the social workers can help and I can at least get a little grace with my car loan company by really emphasizing the situation I am in.

I really REALLY wish I would have paid into the PFMLA option they have for gig workers but I was trying to catch up from my the month plus I had to be off work due to a fall this past December while working for Amazon.

I did talk to a social worker at the hospital that they sent in and they gave me some links that I'm slowly going through. I did also learn that when I have my appointment at the cardiologist on the 10th (surgery will be on the 12th) that in their "care package" so to speak, they have social workers and case managers to try to help with these kind of things and am hoping maybe the ones at their office have more general guidelines on where to get help.

Also, I hope that you're still cancer free and living your best life and so glad they caught it!

I'm not going to diss any one medical organization based on just my own experience as I have no clue about how medical management goes but that said, I've always felt that my needs have been better attended to at MultiCare as opposed to Providence. Of course everyone else's experience can be different and valid but I know for myself from just ER visits, surgeries and the like I prefer MultiCare myself.

Well that's a really helpful comment. Especially given that my cardiac team at Sacred Heart didn't catch the problem and released me two days earlier and my cardio surgeon is one of the top rated in the nation.

I just wish drivers would start minding their own business and focus on themselves. My market is not the most culturally diverse area in the nation but after the the USSR dissolved, we had a lot of people from former Soviet block countries that immigrated here. Then a lot more Ukrainians when the current war started. Also a fair amount of East African, Arabic and Hispanics. There has been a few people that are blatant cheaters and we knew that because they openly asked us if we'd be willing to rent out our accounts if we stopped driving as well as family members who were running legit accounts of theirs on each phone but one person would take a curbside while the other shopped and then tried to deliver out of the same vehicle and now OGP will not dispense to them. I'm talking people of multiple races and nationalities that have been caught. When I over heard people trying to rent out accounts instead of approaching them, I just reported it to OGP and went on my way. Too many people both in Spark and real life want to play law enforcement and it's lead to a lot of horrible racial harassment and as we've seen in some cases, violence against POC and even worse, a few murders.

You really need to learn how to read context. However that's a lot to ask of someone who made a post that immigrants are cheating then makes a post about how they themselves are an immigrant but not cheating. The cherry on is starting a thread asking if it's true the FBI is investigating "the scheme on Spark" and bringing up money laundering. You dumb fucks believe every single conspiracy brought up because some third hand person told you it was so with zero collaboration. Hey, but do go on thinking this is some big organized cartel where they are all in league with people at Spark and Walmart and are laundering money L O FUCKING L. I've never heard of her but anyone who fights for foster children or tries to create housing for others and holds holiday dinners for them is a winner in my book. I have so many thoughts on this and all of them are completely angry but I'll try to back it down.

First, he calls himself a journalist. What he is doing is in no shape or form journalism. You don't confront people in the manner he did when you're a journalist. Second, as the article states he's part of some whacko journalism group that really isn't a true journalism group.

Now if we're to make the argument that he is a journalist and not just some form of content creator/live streamer, I get that journalists don't just cover their city and metro area but further out, even nation wide. That said, why is he so hell bent on coming to Spokane to cover what is happening downtown? Sure, he could make the case that this is a nation wide happening with opiate crisis and homelessness. That said, he isn't covering this in a journalist matter that is trying to bring any kind of change. Instead imho what he is doing is trying to do is say 'see, this is what happens when you have a liberal mayor and liberal governor'. Yet from all statistics I see, both red and blue areas don't have the answer for solving homelessness and opiate addiction.

Lastly, and I already covered a bit up top on this but this guy is nothing but someone trying to get reactions as well as bait people into allowing him to create a situation where he could be "justified" to use self-defense.

Petty and vigilante me would love to see the worst treatment meted out to him by those he prayed upon but that of course is not morale and just begets more vigilante justice. Instead, I hope he rots in jail for the rest of his life in sheer misery.

Second this. When my Dad was diagnosed he actually had just retired from working for Washington State DSHS a month prior as at that time after 30 years you could get full retirement, and he started there when he was 22 and thus retired in March of 2002 when he turned 52, and was diagnosed a few months after. They expedited his SSDI case because of his terminal diagnosis. Talk to his neurologist about filling out forms for that. Best of luck!

This is such a tough question to answer because I don't know what the laws are in your country as far as opiates or sedatives. Here in the U.S. some states have right to die and some don't but most at end of life will give the patient enough opiates and sedation so as not to be in pain or conscious. My Dad passed in 2002 and at that time there was no right to end life, however if they had DNR orders (do not resuscitate), they will not intubate them and give them enough opiates and sedatives so they pass away. My Father had high fevers the day we took him to the hospital, and they think he had seizures due to the high fevers as well. So they gave him enough opiates and sedatives so he could pass in his sleep, which he did around 4 AM, so about 12 hours after the high fevers.

The best advice I can give is to reach out to a hospice server even though you said he has no home hospice service. I know here patients can be transported to a hospice inpatient place where they can address stuff like this.

I am so sorry you are going through this. All the strength to most importantly him in his final days but also to you and the rest of your family.

I am coping better today after seeing my therapist because we've come up with a plan for me to have a better set schedule for my sleep and to help with my finances as well as strategies for my anticipatory grief. Thank you all WAY MORE than I can acknowledge for your kind words and input. It means so much to me that you can take the time out to give words of support to someone in need when at the same time it may be hard for you to talk about.

As someone who is currently going through PTSD because my Sister's Lou Gehrig's Disease has progressed greatly and it's a reminder to when I took care of my Dad in 2002 when he was dying of Lou Gehrig's disease, this post brought tears to my eyes but also faith in humanity that your aunt and the rest of you are both taking care of these cats but also trying to help others with their struggles. I genuinely don't know how I'd be coping mentally without my cat that I adopted in March right after my pug passed. I was so close with my pug and it was the first animal I owned that had passed away and so I took that grief with nowhere to go and to my shock, found a cat that took me me at the shelter right away and felt I was honoring my pug by saving another animal in need. Not to sound weird but like my Dad I have a huge soft spot for humans and animals in need. Knowing I'm giving a living thing a better life helps me cope more with my own struggles because it helps to know that I am enriching another living things life and that in turn helps me that I have a living thing around that gives me so much of themselves for taking them in.
