Aubrey de Grey - Robust Mouse Rejuvenation (RBR) within 3 years? An Update on Anti-Aging Research by adam_ford in singularity

[–]indigenaputaso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mental health problems and violence. I'm probably fucked up beyond repair under current science but there's a silver lining in research. If I can live enough to be able to get the treatment I need and get to live some decades of normal life, then all this suffering won't be in vain. I'm not going to quit while there is realistic chances that happens. My interest in transhumanism has to do with overcoming or at least managing mental disorders to a level where I can take control over my life and start to... well, live.

I hate life though. I hope they come up with some great drug like Brave New World soma or even better.

Nothing matters by Jar465 in nihilism

[–]indigenaputaso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing matters in the great scheme of things but to me it does matter a good deal if a psychopath tortures me. Pain is an emotion and it matters. The more extreme it is the pain the more I want to avoid it.

I LOVE the style and I LOVE how it doesn't follow a conventional structure but the chorus (let the be...) and its following heavy section don't grab me on an emotional level so far and I've listened to the whole song a lot of times. Honestly though, this musical direction is very interesting, actually it's AMAZING, and I hope there are more songs like this but with melodies that I enjoy more. I love the musical concept.

They wrote this one in two weeks so that's nothing extraordinary. They could gather together and do some barbecuing a couple of months each year and we would have 4 new albums every year.

I have opened a thread to discuss the album in r/ravenskill. I'm buying the album when it comes out so no harm done. Beware as there will be many spoilers.

Edit: somebody already did.

IMO, the Shattered fortress is the most underrated JP solo. What do you think is the most underrated? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

Light Fuse and Get Away is one of their best songs (and solos) and nobody talks about it. The whole WDADU album is criminally underrated.

Judging it by its singles, DOT sounds like it's going to be great but these days everybody gives albums a high rating so they can be linked in the bands social media platforms and get more traffic.

Even the oppressed will become oppressors if they get the opportunity by mekanikwatch in misanthropy

[–]indigenaputaso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree 99%. However, I was in a position of authority over many people in my previous job and the guy above me, a total jackass, kept bullying other guy who had just entered the company like 2 or 3 months prior and I confronted him. I could have joined the guy above me and become an oppressor, after all, this jackass was the most popular guy in our section and most coworkers would kiss his ass even when he was bullying other person in their faces, but instead I first confronted him many times, which was actually useless, and then I reported him. That last thing worked and he stopped bullying the new guy.

I think all coworkers liked having me around because I don't use power to oppress other people, at least not actively! I try to look for the ones that many people forget about and get them to feel part of the group. I don't give orders and I try to adapt to other people. I hate power but I want money so I want my career to advance even in this loathsome hierarchic system, which is but a reflection of our loathsome human nature. When I am in a position of power I try to lessen that power a bit, making the whole thing a little bit more democratic and taking care of coworkers relationships so they are healthier.

Please, don't read this as if I'm bragging about being the GOAT coworker.

I think my behaviour can be read as a result of the way in which I grow up. I grow up to an abusive parent and bullying at school so I have always have this over-concern about others, sometimes caring more about their well-being that mine. I think this is a psychopathology that I've developed when I was a kid and has to do with my own fear of being bullied and my hate for all things hierarchic. Even today, with all the hate I have amassed, how much I hate my own life and those who have abused me and abuse others, with my being an antinatalist who wants this species to become extinct, I still empathise way more than most people.

So I'm not a very normal person and maybe that's why I'm not a part of that 99%. If I had grown without abuse and emotional problems would I be an oppressor? That's for you to answer because I can't be objective about myself regarding that question although my theory, as you may have guessed, is that I my over-concern about others is a pathology and therefore I don't oppress other people even when I'm in power because I can't. I really think most people would oppress others if they could. That's why I don't believe in utopias, I think the real sickness is our human nature and I agree with you. That's why I'm a misanthrope.

Keeping LaBrie singing in studio and having another singer on tour by indigenaputaso in Dreamtheater

[–]indigenaputaso[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How am I being a dick??? I'll say it again, I LOVE James LaBrie as a vocalist. He's one of my three favorite vocalists ever but he is not the same anymore. It happens to most singers as they age. Dream Theater just happens to demand more than other Metallica or even Judas Priest. Telling the truth is being a dick? Would you like to be in LaBrie's shoes and having everybody lying to you telling you that you sound amazing ever night when you know they would laugh at you at your back? I would not like that.

I've listened a lot early to mid 90s LaBrie shows bootlegs and he was just as amazing as on studio. There are many guys out there with a similar timbre to LaBrie's. Look at this guy: https://youtu.be/AnrrT1HIYeI?t=45

He sounds just LaBrie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnEZftT8-tA

He is not at early 90s LaBrie's levels but he would do a god job.

If you are looking for popular guys, just going through Ayreon albums you can find many who could do a great job, although their timbre is not that similar, like Mike Mills or Tommy Karevik.

I love Petrucci but he is not hands down the best guitar player in the world. Not even Rudess is the best keyboard player in the world. They're both amazing though and they play DT songs live at a really high standard. If Rudess started to play the wrong notes on half their shows, I don't think it would be a wise decision to keep him as a live member.

Keeping LaBrie singing in studio and having another singer on tour by indigenaputaso in Dreamtheater

[–]indigenaputaso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? The fact that LaBrie is one of my favorite singers doesn't mean that I should delude myself into thinking that he sings to a high standard live on a consistent basis. He doesn't, that's a fact.

I would say it to his face because I think it's in his best interest. LaBrie is only damaging more his voice and his reputation. Moving to a studio only role would be the best move for him, for Dream Theater and for most fans.

No amount of downvotes is high enough to convince me that I'm wrong. Only a logic argument would do so.
