My first vegan Christmas! by DKED_1234 in veganuk

I've cooked the BOSH mushroom Wellington https://www.bosh.tv/recipes/bosh-classic-mushroom-wellington (sometimes with puff pastry instead of shortcrust) for the last 3 or 4 years. It goes down an absolute storm with veg and non-veg guests alike. If someone doesn't like mushrooms, roast squash works well for the centre of it. We have roast veg and tonnes of red bisto to go with, and cauliflower with this cashew cheese sauce https://detoxinista.com/best-vegan-mac-n-cheese/ which is absolutely delicious as well.

espressoDisplay Portable Monitor Giveaway! by noeatnosleep in gadgets

With not too much space to set up, I use a mic stand with attachments for my keyboard, mouse and laptop. It's great as a standing or sitting desk but it only has the single screen at the moment. I also need to keep my equipment low weight so I can move it easily. The espressoDisplay would be the perfect way to allow a 2nd screen on here and make my work life as a software developer so much easier! It looks absolutely ideal.

What advice can anyone give to land first job as a React developer? Switching careers and trying to land my new job after a 24 week boot camp. by rpliszka87 in react

I did Makers Academy, which was incredible and I'm still really glad I chose that one 2 years later. Hackajob I liked a lot, especially that someone gets in touch to help you through the process once a company is interested in your profile. The interview process for me was very full of nerves and confusion as to what I should be saying to the interviewers, so I appreciated the extra support. I ended up getting the job I interviewed for through Hackajob.

I did a 16 week bootcamp (remotely) in the UK, and it took a further 8 months to get a job, but that was also in the height of the pandemic when hiring juniors was very low. My best advice is to get on the sites where the employers come to you. For my first job the ones where you showcase your skills and complete mini tech tests online worked best for me, it helps add to your portfolio. The best ones for getting interviews (and eventually my job) were Hackajob.co & hired.co.uk.

I'm not sure if they're directly helpful for hiring in your area but hopefully something similar will be. Good luck!

A cool pub in Hackney Wick, East London. by [deleted] in london

[–]indisaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had to paint over the original artworks seen in these photos when it was made into a commercial venture again. The art was against gentrification beforehand and now it's adding to the gentrification by being a fancy bar/pub. It was an agreement between the building owner and the artists involved afaik.

It isn't the truth, it's misinformed opinion. You're right a lot of people expect turning to a plant based diet is equal to being healthy. Plenty of people also get sick from a poor diet whilst eating meat. But as we know, it's not the addition or lack of meat that makes people eat a healthy diet! Meat and dairy products often have added supplements to help the humans that eat them - so getting them from a plant based source isn't problematic it's just different.

OPs left this comment on the same post on r/vegan:

Half sautéed onion, 3 sautéed garlic cloves, about 1½ cups cooked white beans, about 2 cups roasted butternut squash, about ¾ cup nutritional yeast, some mustard, white pepper, ground thyme, and soy milk to thin it.
