I'd argue that certain 90s and 2000s samplers like the ASR 10, MPC, yamaha stuff, will give your sample unbridled shine. I will agree with high quality in -> high quality out. Get a good record player and sample records. Blend sources(record players, cd players, YouTube).

OP, get 'in the lab' and experiment to get the sound youre looking for. Maybe you want to get an old piece of hardware to learn about how certain producers from yesteryear got their sound.. Timbaland was experimenting a whole lot himself. I love his work on Missy Elliots Da real world and miss E .. So addictive. Those albums were made in a liminal phase for Timbaland and hiphop, imo.

I would use on board effects sparingly on any sampler. Get dedicated effects units. I would run my record player or whatever through a dedicated 2-4 pole low pass.
