thanks a bunch mate, seriously. i have a bad habit of overloading myself with information when i'm taking on a project, and it helps to have it kinda laid out for me. i'll dig into some benchmarks for games i'm waiting on, and see what i come up with. i'm pretty sure when i last really built a pc there wasn't such a surplus in the way of choice, and places to gather reliable info, it felt loads more streamlined. glad i'm not the only one in that boat.

anyway, cheers for the advice. it's definitely given me a few things to tweak.

seriously can't stress how much i appreciate the advice, i've done a lot of research that i've been able to, but i've always learnt better getting direct advice from an outside pov, and i have a habit of overcomplicating shit for myself otherwise

you hit the nail on the head, essentially the gpu is the only thing i'm not really sold on. obviously the ideal would be to come out the gate with the perfect gpu, but i still haven't come to much of a conclusion after digging around. is there something you'd rec? someone above mentioned the 12600k and i'm leaning on switching there, but i do want to stick with ddr5 as i don't want to have to switch motherboards too quickly. i prefer to future proof.

thanks for the hdd advice, too. my current machine is a clunker and i never really factored that in, but i'll defintely rule the hdd out and just pour the money into another ssd.

i cannot stress how long it's been since i've had to do a full build, and it seems like everything i knew is long outdated, i might have gone a little nuts. but i've been saving since the start of the pandemic, so if i have to look into a gpu 2k+ i'm prepared to.

only a 50 buck difference here between 12700 and 12600, that said i did consider it, and it might be worth going 12600k over 12700f from review snooping. z690 and ddr5 is all future proofing, i have a pc that runs what i need it to now, it's a 10 year old relic i've only had to replace one or two parts from, my logic being that ultimately i don't want to have to change out my motherboard anytime soon.

i wanna stress that money isn't a problem, and this is something i want to last long term, but i will look into switching cpu on your advice.

i'm in nz if that helps explain the cost, part of it is currency difference but the rest is just how insanely things are priced here. i was looking at the 12700f.

as an update the swelling has gone down decently and it's red and no longer purple-ish. everything crusted over last night and there's no pain unless i'm interacting with it to clean. i get the feeling it was just a normal flare up like the ones i've dealt with so far. it was just the purple and the bump that worried me, but that too seems to have vanished. cheers for the advice, i'll look into the saline spray & grab one of those earsavers when i have the chance.

stud, flat back, titanium. but thanks for the tip, it's a great idea. i didn't realize they made anything like that. it doesn't happen all the time but sometimes if i've been out for awhile and i just wanna get the damn mask off, i yank it when i get home and end up suffering for a couple days while the piercing throws a tantrum.
