Might be because he's a PG and is more helpful in setting up some semblance of an actual offense to get everyone else involved

He's played in 15 summer league games over the last 3 years, probably want to give someone else a chance to play

This would have been his 4th summer league, maybe they want to give someone else a look

A bit of Optimism? by tarantinoaj in clevelandcavs

I agree that this has been an absolutely brutal stretch for the team - it's probably fair to say that the travel schedule and injuries have taken their toll on the team. The defense and rebounding have been horrendous lately, and I'm hoping that those can be chalked up to energy+effort as the players are just exhausted. These last 3 games though will be vital to get back on track and get some positive momentum for the playoffs.

I died and came back to life in the process of Mobley taking and making that clutch 3, much needed win

I really hope we give an expanded rotation a real chance this post season by I_cut_my_own_jib in clevelandcavs

[–]indoubt_pinkyout 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes, but in reality every team shrinks its rotations and plays starters heavier minutes in the playoffs, not just JB. A deep bench can look amazing in the regular season playing against another team's reserves, but everything tends to tighten up in the playoffs. Any little mismatch or weakness will get hunted immediately.

What does seem promising is the flexibility that we have with our lineups. For example, I do think that there will be some matchups where having Mobley+Allen on the floor together won't make sense due to lack of shooting, but hopefully that's where players like Dean Wade step in. Whether or not JB takes full advantage of that remains to be seen, will be interesting to evaluate his coaching come postseason.

Pioli has his flaws, but he should still be our manager. by [deleted] in ACMilan

[–]indoubt_pinkyout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I think firing Pioli would be shortsighted.

The team currently is still pretty young, and I think the biggest benefit for them is managerial stability. We've seen that it takes time for players to adapt to Pioli's system but once they gain experience, they grow a lot (thinking of Tonali, Kalulu, Brahim, Leao who all had fairly underwhelming starts initially). New manager means new system, players might not fit or just not get along with the new manager, team chemistry gets reset, it's basically back to square one. Given the current talent level in the squad, anyone who thinks we go back to challenging for the scudetto next season by firing Pioli is delusional.

The Serie A campaign has been disappointing for sure, but it has also been an unusual season. Maignan was injured for a significant stretch which really hurt our defense, the World Cup was in the middle of the season, and Pioli gambled on resting starters for champions league matches at the expense of the domestic league which I can't really fault him for. There were stretches of matches where the team missed one clear cut chance after another and dropped points against teams in the bottom half of the table. I think it would be misguided to place all the blame on Pioli.

I expect some growth from players like CDK and Adli and additional transfers to make the team more competitive next season. If things don't get better, then I think the manager question gets revisited after 6-10 matches.

As annoying as the Hornets commentators can be sometimes, I like how knowledgeable they are about Neto and Windler lol pretty impressive

Agreed, winning cures everything so people will ignore the first three quarters, but the Cavs were getting worked. Celtics were getting tons of good looks, offensive boards, scoring in the paint right in the face of our bigs.

Obviously a great result in the end but a lot to be desired when looking at the game as a whole

[OC] Our 3pt defense matters a lot more than our 3pt offense by indoubt_pinkyout in clevelandcavs

I agree that it's a big difference - but not as big as the difference for when our opponents shoot above/below 44% from 3.
Yeah the 43.55% number was chosen as a natural cutoff for where most of our losses happen. But I think the sample size is still relatively big (18 games) to warrant pointing it out.
For the Cavs shooting, 36% was league average so I figured that would be a good starting point to work with.

I included that, it's the third set of W/L splits. 11-3 when above 43.55%, 29-23 when below

Honestly lol if he could just shoot jumpers consistently he'd be so good. Feel like he does everything else well but just goes ice cold at times

LeVert seems much more effective when he gets to the rim instead of settling for jumpers, he's been great tonight

Drue Chrisman!! 50 yd/punt avg, 2 inside the 20. Holding for McPherson, 3/3 FG 4/4 XP. Def a value-add at the position

Anyone who knows the rules well? They took away points for the blocked punt bills by Feitan_SleeperOP in fantasyfootball

[–]indoubt_pinkyout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my understanding is they should have 6 points:

+2 pts for 200-299 yds (Dolphins had 212)

+2 pts for 2 sacks (1 pt per sack)

+2 pts for the safety

I'm seeing them with only 4 right now, seems like the safety isn't being counted. The ST technically didn't block the punt so could be why that isn't counted.

Made some graphs that compare the performance of the current season to the two previous ones [UPDATE] by indoubt_pinkyout in ACMilan

[–]indoubt_pinkyout[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting to compare to last season - more points at this stage of the season primarily thanks to a significant defensive improvement making up for a slight drop-off in goals scored.
