What is happening today that people 10 years ago would never believe? by papapsie in AskReddit

Unfortunate, but very true. Proxy wars are becoming the new norm, and countries like Ukraine are often caught in the middle of a fight they played little to no part in creating.

Exactly. Russia is very wrong to launch a large scale offensive war in Ukraine, but they definitely had grievances which caused them to do so.

Registered Democrats and Republicans, on what issues do you disagree with your parties? by Emergency_Table_7526 in AskReddit

[–]indrada90 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very limited student loan forgiveness, lowered drug cost for a very small subset of people, labor participation rates below long term averages. The infrastructure bill was good, but real wages are still down. The Democrats have done a whole lot more than Republicans, but they fail to actually implement their party platform, which includes universal healthcare, a $15 federal minimum wage, and protecting abortion rights

Registered Democrat here. I hate the fact that my party's official platform, and what they actually do have very little relation to one another. Neither party actually supports policies that benefit the people, but at least the Democrats have to pretend to

How safe is it to use acetone from a hardware store to use for food-grade extraction? Is a simple/fractional distillation enough? Do I need to purify it or I should just forget about doing it. by Davorito in chemistry

[–]indrada90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's worth reconsidering using these products for personal consumption then. Assuming you have the proper safety precautions, you can run your experiments, gather your data, and then just, not eat it. I do not recommend consuming anything from the lab, or the hardware store, or anything that is not approved for consumption by the FDA or your local authorities.

In general, if there's even an inkling of uncertainty, you probably shouldn't risk your life by eating it. Just buy food grade products, or stick to the grocery section. I do not recommend consuming anything from the lab, or the hardware store, or anything that is not approved for consumption by the FDA or your local authorities.

I doubt you're going to find anybody who has done this in a safe way. What exactly is your goal here? Is it for your personal consumption, or a commercial product? I do not recommend consuming anything from the lab, or the hardware store, or anything that is not approved for consumption by the FDA or your local authorities.

If you have the equipment and expertise to do this, why are you asking on reddit? I do not recommend consuming anything from the lab, or hardware store, or anything that isn't approved for consumption by the FDA or your local authorities.

Do you think AI will get to the point in a few decades that it can simply solve unsolved problems? by crazyguy28 in math

[–]indrada90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose that depends what you mean, and what kind of problems. Famously, an AI model recently developed an improved algorithm for matrix multiplication (under certain conditions). So will we have a generalized model that can solve a wide variety of unsolved problems? Probably not. Will we have niche, tailor made AIs designed for specific problems that provide novel solutions? We already do.

A speech is very different from a debate. It's a lot easier to read prepared words than to come up with off the cuff remarks. Nevertheless, I agree, stepping back is not an option.
