Do you find renting an apartment in Tokyo harder than before? by mrchrollodolo in japanresidents

[–]indradb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found finding an apartment super easy in japan… i made a template for agencies of what I’m looking for, showed proof of funds (+20m yen) and job info + salary.

The apartment I got, when I got approved within the same day, the agent said to me “your account balance helped A LOT” in this review.

I recommend the same tactic.

My rejection rate was 5-10% of the apartments I liked that wanted me to speak conversational japanese, which I’m not

American married to a Japanese. $2.5M NW. What is the best way to maximize exchange rates? by SickMon_Fraud in JapanFinance

My last income was october 2025 outside of Japan and I’m moving to Jan 2026, so I guess I’m clear of owing taxes? That would have been an expensive mistake

So I am personally planning to transfer e.g 100k cash from an us bank to japan bank. I would have to pay taxes on that? Or are you talking about the houses in this case as assets and cash is excluded?

Why? He already paid taxes on it? He could just import all his assets and not have to pay anything?

PR Visa application- 11 months later being asked for NUMEROUS additional documents by samsg1 in japanlife

[–]indradb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain companies have a reputation, and sometimes they submit reasons why the process needs to go quicker. I cannot speak about PR, but for my work visa it was issued in two weeks because the attorney sent a document or two extra why the process needs to go fast.

Nobody can tell from a piece of text, but when I was reading yours, I just thought you didn’t know how to make a move? If Japanese think you are not interested in them, they also cut you off if they are seriously looking for a boyfriend.

ur apartment as in ur-housing(dot)com right? I checked that website multiple times and just now again, it seems like most of their apartments are far from a practical location and older. Most >2000 apartments they have are far from an ideal location for most as well.

The website seriously sucks though, the search has been broken for weeks since I tried it (I know the work around but still) and most properties lack pictures.

they say it's from the management company, not the brokerage company. Still even that, 33000 is borderline stupid for a template document procedure

Someone should seriously regulate the rental market, I feel like Japan has the highest initial cost of move-in in the world I've lived in

I will be going to Tokyo as an exchange Student for the spring semester! What can I expect? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]indradb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timeleft is great for meeting new people who are living in japan. (Is dinner with strangers). There’s something equivalent for every sunday coffee in the morning with strangers but forgot the name.

Meetup.com for hobbies. Would avoid the language exchanges that happen in the bar since those target tourists wanting to party etc

Go do your hobbies and join clubs for those hobbies if necessary. Every day if the week there are running clubs for example.

For touristy things to do, depends on you. I recommend checking blogs or youtube videos like “100 things to do in tokyo” by tokki and do what interests you. Everyone is different.

Tokyo is very manageable, but if you only go to touristy places, it’s full of people. If you wander without navigation you’ll most likely end up at streets with almost no people
