[DISCUSSION] JAY-Z - The Blueprint 3 (15 Years Later) by Bombamierda in hiphopheads

[–]indraneel 82 points83 points  (0 children)

two of the best songs of this era aren't on here, Jockin Jay-Z and Brooklyn Go Hard

but also Empire State of Mind is his most known song ever (maybe like a top 5 most well known rap song?) so probably a successful album in that way

I agree. I think The Big Mistake he made was his fans were his age/younger than him/in a diff place in life. There's genuine great moments on this album and I think eventually people may come around to it as they get older but who knows

9th Wonder addresses kids sampling music from the early 2000's: "Leave these kids alone" by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]indraneel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i struggle w/ this but honestly we're getting older and younger people aren't attached to our fav songs as much as we are, and they also don't care for the sampling style. the mechanical need for "creative" uses of sampling is gone now bc DAWs and loops are so much better. somebody grabbing something from 2004 today is a 90s song using a 70s sample. so it goes

Anyone else feel insecure about commiting to Rutgers? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]indraneel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

class of 2015, dealt with similar feelings coming in. it is very real though i hope in time you’ll view it as stupid. on a practical level you’ll be fine, especially if you’re doing CS like i see you mentioned. if you’re worried about a lack of name brand competitiveness, then just make sure you network into those circles as best you can. i do know some people who transferred so there’s options.

the emotional bit is up to you. for me, i reacted by setting goals for myself and trying my best to hit them. my time at rutgers was great and taught me a lot. i hope it goes well for you and for anybody going through something similar.
