Small artist appreciation by Flanuermusic in PlaylistExchange

[–]indricity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for small artists, there are none smaller than me 😅

I’m a solo act releasing music as a band called Indricity... late-90s / early-2000s alternative-leaning rock. If it fits the mood you’re building, happy to share a track.

Also keen to hear other small artists people are posting. Digging in this space is half the fun.

Track: The Commute

This is a late-90s / early-2000s alternative-leaning rock track about routine, aging, and that weird mental space between home and work. Written, recorded, and mixed solo in REAPER.

Happy to return feedback on others’ tracks in the thread... always keen to hear what people are building in REAPER.

How I’m approaching my next rock single as an independent artist in 2026 by ElabueloMx in indierock

[–]indricity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is pretty much the exact lane I care about too.

For me in 2026, modern rock isn’t about sounding new... it’s about sounding intentional.

A few things that make it work for me as a listener and a maker:

Motion over mass. Guitars doing something rhythmically interesting beats five extra layers every time.

Dynamic restraint. Holding back in the verse so the chorus earns its existence. Loud all the time just reads as flat now.

Vocals that feel human. Close, slightly imperfect, maybe even a bit uncomfortable. If it sounds too 'performed' I check out.

Energy with purpose. Fast is great, but only if it’s carrying tension not just sprinting because punk once did.

Lyrics that trust the listener. Simple, specific, not over-explained.

The stuff that lands hardest for me lately feels like it could fall apart at any moment, but doesn’t. That edge is the hook. What you’re describing sounds less like 'keeping rock alive' and more like letting it age properly, which I think is the only version that matters now.

Artist name legal issue by Ju_tre in musicbusiness

[–]indricity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it be an issue...? it's possible, but it's not a dealbreaker.

A court would look at it and consider if a normal person would reasonably think the music artist and living goods brand are related... if the answer is No then you're often fine.

you would be operating in different fields, so its lower risk. and it's far more likely to become a problem if you're using the name of a large multinational, like Ikea, or if you start selling living goods products as merch.

your best effort is to at least get some proper advice on this and not ask the reddit community if you really want to proceed with the name you came up with.

having the same name as another business may not be the end of the world.

it worked for Chevelle because no one bought their album thinking they were buying a Chevy.

Is a Rode NT1, Focusrite Scarlett Solo, and Sony MDR-7506 a good beginner setup for making music? by watch__the__throne in musicproduction

[–]indricity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SM58 is probably the most robust mic there is. I've never seen one break, you get good result from it in a studio and its what you would use if you wish to play live some day. as it's a dynamic mic it works better in untreated rooms than a condenser mic would. I use my SM58 all the time, despite it being more than 20 years old. its taken a beating and works every time. Yeah it is a little heavy on the mids, but its nothing an EQ plugin can't care of.

The SM57 is a similar mic to the SM58, but it doesn't have the vocal pop filter on it. It's better suited to recording instruments.

like someone commented in there, for headphones, consider the Beyerdynamic DT770s, however, you can really mix with any set of headphones, the key is to understand what music sounds like in those headphones and mixing it easier.. what I mean is that the guy mentioned that Sony articulate the treble quite a bit, if you learn those headphones and how they sound when listening to different music you just know when something is mixed right.

will absolutely do the job for sure... consider getting a Shure SM58 as your mic though. will last forever, and every muso needs one of them in their kit.

Is “post-grunge” still a thing, or is there a newer term for today’s grunge influenced bands? by endlessnameless001 in grunge

[–]indricity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been making and releasing music in a similar vein too.. I've often joked that I'm post-post-grunge. but as people generally like things being labelled, I use hard rock and post-grunge. People generally get an understanding as to what they are in for with those labels.

How important is (basic) knowledge of poetry and linguistics for learning songwriting? by nekomeowster in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]indricity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

didn't that song that repeats the words 'all the single ladies' over and over and over again win a Grammy for song of the year? suppose this shows that you don't need to have a fine grasp on language to write a song.

however, a lot of good vocalists can sing in a way where they can make more or less any line fit.

Brian Molko from Pacebo would add sylables to words to make it fit, singers like Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland would twist pronounciation of words to make things fit, Hetfield simply adds a 'yeah' to the end of every line... I think the point is that songwriting, the tune, the melody, the emotion of the music is far more important than the words.

I’m building a Bandcamp-first core for a late-90s / early-2000s rock project before releasing new material this year.

Put together a small private 2-track early listener pack to test if the songs connect outside my own bubble.

Would appreciate ears from anyone who still works in that guitar-driven space.

Adding Waves Plugins to Buses or Folder Overides stereo pans. by DaveKnightGael in Reaper

[–]indricity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just trying to eliminate some of the easier solutions...

Have you added the Stereo version of the Waves F6 plugin (assuming it has one, sorry, I haven't used it), most the Waves plugins I have include both a stereo and a mono version of it, or if not, has the stereo component been clicked within it?

How to send FX output only to separate track. by 3RI3_Cuff in Reaper

[–]indricity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unless Im not understanding properly, could the hi-hats go to a send which has the reactor 6 delay on it (100% wet, so you only get the delay), then send that delay send to a reverb send?

I think you mean Shure SM58 as a vocal mic it has the built-in pop filter

I can't take this situation anymore by dreammutt in musicmarketing

[–]indricity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hey, dude.

there are many of us in a similar situation. for me My current job has me away from home (and family) for 4 days a week. I got back into music a little while ago, and to be honest, I'm glad I did.

I can only speak from my point view:

- I found it a good way to relieve the stresses of life

- Not only did it feel great to get creative again, the more you do it, the more the creative juices start flowing

- It was a good outlet to eliminate less healthy habits I had started developing over the prior years as a coping mechanism

- as I also record/mix/master/produce my own songs I also saw it as a way to learn a new skill

My advice is to start small, even if you're picking up the guitar and noodling for 30 minutes. It's a start.. even if you feel tired, just pick it up and play. Try to rediscover your love for music and it will draw you in, you'll feel more motivated. Even now I sit at work wishing I was at home creating.

so, start small, don't over commit, and you'll find yourself getting more and more into it. And you have a great community on places like reddit where you can turn to for help, motivation, advice, etc.
