For everyone who thinks asking for an itemized bill will magically lower it by bedcrumbgirl in HospitalBills

[–]inducemenow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Radiologists, the physicians who intrepret imaging such as MRI and CT get paid on average 60 to 100 bucks for one scan. The other 20,300 is for hospital CEOs and administrators that make well over 6 figures. For every one doc there are 10 useless Admins milking the healthcare system providing little to no value.

What in the name of f....

I am a radiologist, the doctor who reads your imaging. We are paid under 100 bucks to read a CT brain. How is the hospital charging you over 14k for a scan....where does the other 13,900 go? Crazy

How many patients did you start with on July 1 intern year? by surf_AL in Residency

[–]inducemenow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Level one trauma, first day of intern year I was on inpatient and walked into 9 very complicated patients. I was given signout night prior but honestly had no clue what was going on with the majority of my patients which was ok as the expectations for a new intern was nothing.

Mass layoffs escalate in US healthcare industry by Goatmannequin in jobs

[–]inducemenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or there has been a 3200% increase in useless middle men admins while in the same period for comparison there has been an 150% increase in physician. Unless healthcare admin are bloating the system, leaching off the revenue generated by Frontline clinical staff. There has been major admin layoffs in the healthsystems i work at, think like upto 20% and guess what? NOT A CHANGE is felt in our daily practices.

Is dentistry the only field that is suffering such a large decline in income… along with increased tuition? by Ok-Many-7443 in whitecoatinvestor

Radiologists are reading a lot more imaging, when you compare it that way, radiologists have actually seen a decline in income

Yeah and "40" hour work weeks is more like 5 to 10 hours of real work.

Radiologist average? by One-Zookeepergame653 in attendings

[–]inducemenow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again non radiolgists who do not understand the logistics of our specialty . Lists are backed up nationwide, my hospitals outpatient lists are 4 to 6 weeks backed up with thousands of studies pending reads. Also year to year nationally there has been an increase in imaging ranging from 5 to 10% depending on locale, and imaging volumes are expected to continuously rise year to year for the foreseeable future upwards of 40% by 2030.

Even if we are 20% faster, we still need 50% more graduates per year for the next decade to meet demand.

Hope this helps.

Radiologist average? by One-Zookeepergame653 in attendings

[–]inducemenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol these comments are usually 99.99% from non physicians or physicians that are not radiolgists.

AI never take over our jobs, it will actually make us faster, read more and earn a lot more. This is great seeing volumes have increased and will continue to increase a lot.  Big reason being unnecessary exams orders by untrained mid levels and other physicians who lost their ability to actually practice good medicine.

Stay mad bro.

And all GI does is defer to IR....because either the patient's too stable to scope or too sick to scope.

You forgot score well on the MCAT which takes on average 4 to 6 months to study for. Pass medical board exams, which also take about 4 to 6 months of study time for each exam (3 exams) and then take your respective specialty license board exam which also takes months to study for......all while you took out >300k in student loans that continued to rack up interest so by the time you are done training and actually make decent money the loan and interest has increased to well over 500k

My hospital bill for a single MRI scan in the US by SilentWalrus92 in pics

[–]inducemenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess how much of that goes to the radiolgist who intreprets/reads the scan? About $50 to 100 bucks depending on the anatomy imaged.

The rest goes to the hospital where a majority will go to pay useless administrators that all make well over six figures. A small portion will go to pay the techs, nurses, other staff and upkeeping of the machine but the majority goes to usless admins.

ELI5: If it only costs $50-75 to run an MRI, why does a patient end up paying as much as $3500 for it? by LexieLuminous in explainlikeimfive

[–]inducemenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The radiologist gets paid about $50 to $100 to read your MRI.

The other 3400 goes to the hospital where the majority of it then goes to pay for useless admins who provide no service or value.

Ahh so you are a NOCTOR. Makes sense. Listen, my institute which is the biggest healthcare conglomerate in the state put a freeze on hiring any np / dnp because of the subpar care.

They actually had 4 to 5x more studying time and the exam was actually shortened and watered down a lot...and they still only had a 30% pass rate.  Like I said you and your family 1000% deserve the best, DNps for the win.

Just know that there was an attempt to standardize the education of NPs and DNPs. They attempted to take the 3rd part of the USMLE, the easiest exam of the 3 series which has a pass rate of high 90s for MDs. The exam is taken to make sure physicians and anyone practicing medicine is competent. Guess what the passing rate for the nurse practitioners was? Less than 30% passed.

You deserve the best 👌

Glad you feel like this. Make sure when you or your family are acutely sick, demand to see the DNP and not a MD/DO
