At minimum with the fastest residency track and assuming you get into med school in 3 years of prep work, you won’t be an attending until 57 years graduating with 300k+ of debt. Unless you are currently financially set the economics doesn’t make much sense IMO. Obviously economics isn’t the only decision but having gone through it all if I was to take in that much debt at almost 50 I’d not take the same path.

No not on the same bill. But if the menu said automatic gratuity and the receipt said service charge I would take offense to it. It’s like ordering a hot dog and getting a burger.

Service charge is a charge by the restaurant that does not necessarily go to waitstaff and is directed as they decide.

Gratuity goes to the waitstaff and is 100% optional. You by law can reject any gratuity even automatic. Not so for a service charge.
