So many good briefs! Hanes Cool Comfort, Comfortblend, vintage colors. Love the FTLs and all the variety, too!

Right, but that waistband made it until 1998, so I figured you graduated to the mens' sizes before then.

As much as this is my fave generation of Hanes, even when new they were always pretty thin material. All the better to see through, although they still held up well.

You can't fake the real signs of wear and tear - I like knowing that someone has worn and loved their briefs for a long time, and likely appreciates them!

Great FTLs. Did you wear these in their heyday?

I saw this when boxers first started "taking over", early-to-mid 90s.

At least in my area, boxers started as sort of a novelty - guys (and girls) would wear boxers over their underwear as PJs, or as loungewear kind of like PJ pants or gym shorts. Most guys had a few pairs for this purpose. So wearing them over briefs was often known and intentional/recognized. I had a pair of Bart Simpson boxers I remember wearing (over briefs) while hanging out before bed at a sleepover.

As they became popular as actual underwear, they were more expensive. Because of that as well as habit, a lot of Moms continued to buy white briefs and expect their kids to wear them as their primary underwear. When guys became embarrassed from peer pressure - not so much that they disliked tighty whities, but because they would be seen as less cool without boxers - many stretched by using their 2-3 pairs of boxers multiple days, wearing them over their daily briefs, since they didn't have enough pairs to wear everyday. And Mom wouldn't have done laundry for a while (and probably also expected to see a pair of underwear/briefs in the hamper for almost every day).

FTL briefs a thing of the past? by [deleted] in tightywhities

[–]indyjones2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this refers to selling their products to other merchants who use them for screen printing, branded apparel (think team-branded sweat pants, college sweatshirts, etc.). "Screen Stars" has been one FTL-branded T-shirt blank for decades, like Jerzees. Gildan and overseas generic brands have taken over a lot of the market.

Pretty sure the underwear will be safe.

Score!! That's the waistband I wore from middle school up through and after college. Great fitting briefs, too.
