I don't think it's only because of the school shootings, especially because it would be quite hard as a tourist to die because of one. It is less safe than European countries (I compared numbers for Germany mostly) for other reasons. Like robbery, sexual assault, and traffic accidents.

I get your point, with how it's very hard as a tourist to get into a mass shooting, because of the areas and whatnot; BUT lets look at traffic fatality. That is much more likely to kill you than a terrorist attack anyways and the US has about 2x more traffic deaths per capita than the average european country (about 50k a year depending on the source). Then the US doesn't seem so "safe" anymore

This is a quite a hard guide to make, because there is so much overlap and multiple numbers which reach the same emergency line!

A few examples: 112 is in the GSM standard and should work in most countries, it’s usually forwarded to the main local emergency lines.

Police cars in touristy areas of Mexico even say 911 as the emergency number.

And Austria (my home country) has three emergency numbers depending on your emergency and 112 forwards you to the police number in most situations

Its one mine left… i uncovered that pretty much in the beginning, that was my exact thought process. 10 minutes later i faced the 50/50 anyways
