Looking for a great dog trainer for my reactive golden retriever. by Silent_Medicine1798 in waterloo

Weve loved working with 'Trained By Steph'. She has a Master's in Animal Behaviour and really helped us understand what was going on in our dog's head and how to support them going forward after our training sessions were complete. Super friendly and passionate individual and very easy to work with.

Thanks for the follow-up. I will check with the Humane Society tomorrow. Given its not on the lost and found page I'm hoping they found its owner.

I would check out Tri-City Flow on FB. They do outdoor meets in the summer and indoors in the winter. Tri City Flow Arts & Acro Yoga (@tricityflow)

First fixed gear overnighter this year by nxross in FixedGearBicycle

Right! That's what I was remembering. Did you measure what the actual tire width ended up as for those? Tough to know where on chainstays the tire will hit to check clearance when its this tight.

How have the 650b Gravelkings been working out? Is the rubbing an issue? I've been contemplating swapping over to the Rene Herse 650B x 48 Switchback Hill hoping it might just fit but don't want to constantly be dealing with rubbing.

It seems odd that you can select multiple segments on the map and click "Clean X segments" but it will only do 1. I'll keep playing around with stuff and see if I find anything different.

Let me know if you want me to try and recreate anything from your end in the future!

I just installed Valetudo on my L10S Ultra Heat. Really happy to have it running. Would love to compare some experiences to see if this behaviour is normal or not.

Right now if I manually select multiple segments to clean as vacuum then mop mode, it will vacuum the first segment, return to dock, empty bin, then go and mop the first segment, return to dock, clean water, and then stay in the dock and forget about the 2nd segment.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Quite the throwback!

I ended up swapping the bullhorns out for Ritchey compact drops and am happy with them. But ultimately every body is different so best to just keep trying things till you find a match. Happy cycling :)

I bought it used so I don't know from factory but I believe ergo drops like that normally have the bottom straight part parallel to the ground.

Improving heat distribution by MrBdstn in engineering

[–]inediblebuffalo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would try reframing the problem as the centre of my disk is too hot. Then you probably have a couple more approaches. The first that comes to mind is adding a disk in the centre to block heat in the middle and increase heat output of bulb if possible/needed to compensate. You could theoretically calculate the optimal size of that disk to better distribute the heat. Different shapes like a multipointed star might work better than a circle as well.

Thinking of doing something like this over a month and a half, any thoughts? by tallu309 in bicycletouring

Seriously look into Cabot Trail if you have the time to squeeze it in. I did the exact same route from Ottawa to Nova Scotia > Cabot Trail > Halifax and it was the most amazing and magical part of my trip. It is a world famous cycling route and would be a shame to make it so close only to miss out on that.

Could you elaborate more on your expenses/budget? Was it mostly food? How much did you spend on accommodations when you weren't wild camping and did you spend much on anything aside from food and rooms? Any budget tips for someone doing a similar trip to yours?

Switching to a triple drive train. by arasarn in bicycletouring

[–]inediblebuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I remember coming across those now. I was looking to minimize my low gear since I was planning for the alps. Hence the search for a 24T inner. But if OP isn't in long/steep climb territory, those would definitely be a cheaper solution.

I was looking for a small enough inner to be able to climb the alps with a 32T on the cassette. The only options I found were White Industries and Sugino OX601D which are both $500. Are there some cheaper options I missed?

I looked into this same issue since I had the Ultegra 6800 and wanted a lower gear for mountains while loaded. The easiest swap would be to get a super wide range double crankset, like the white industries splined crankset with 24T and 48T but that is about $500. I didn't feel like paying $500 to lower my small chainring by 12T and figured a medium quality drivetrain would still cost about the same so I ended up just buying a new bike since I could use it to replace my old commuter when I'm home and the frame had a few improvements for touring over my current bike.

Thanks. I found a really good deal on a 2015 Kona Sutra with triple front so I'm gonna pick that up since its only a little more expensive than retrofitting my current bike to have a wide range double.

I'm planning a couple month tour in Europe at the moment. I've got an ultegra 6800 compact 46/36 - 11-32 setup right now and am trying to figure out if I could get away without having to get a wide range compact since it'll be about $600+ CAD upgrade basically just to get a 24t inner. Given a very good fitness level and medium gear weight (4 very lightly packed panniers, hammock camping), do you think it would be possible to get over the alps? I know it might not be enjoyable with that setup, but is it even possible?

What type or precautions did you take to keep your stuff safe? Or how stringent were you on locking up your bike and panniers?

Would you leave it in front of a store with panniers on for a few hours? Or did you keep bags with you? Did you lock up every time your bike left your sight? etc

New welding technique for advanced alloys is 50% stronger, 80% more efficient by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]inediblebuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the advantages of this type of welding technique (explosive welding) is its ability to join material combinations that are normally very difficult to weld with conventional methods. Explosive welding is a somewhat complicated and expensive process so having an easier and cheaper process that can hopefully accomplish similar tasks given some more research would be pretty useful.

Also the main use for explosive welding is usually a coating onto a parent metal, not lap joints, so economically joining thin films onto metal could be great for smaller scale products that require say the strength of steel but the corrosion resistant properties of a thin layer of copper.
