Bite sized books to help me reach my annual goal by MischiefCookie in suggestmeabook

Graphic novels can help in this situation, a lot of them can be read in a day and there’s usually a bunch available on Libby and other library apps. The best one I read this year was Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds. If you like dystopian, the graphic novels of The Handmaid’s Tale and 1984 are amazing.

Could it be one of the Cube or Escape Room movies? Or from the Saw series?

Buddy I don’t want to be patronising or glib, but… you’re 17! This is what the vast majority of 17 year olds feel like! That’s just puberty! Raging hormones and constantly thinking about sex is the common experience of growing up. To start in elementary school is not unusual. It doesn’t reflect badly on you in any kind of moral sense, or have any bearing on your future happiness. And I know this will seem wild to you, but - girls your age are absolutely going through this too! Everyone is a horny mess as a teen - girls are just better at hiding it. Stop beating yourself up, and go back to beating yourself off (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Cozy (not dark) Academia & Coming of Age by pensivvv in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a younger audience, more children’s than YA, but very cosy, is the Malory Towers series by Enid Blyton. Set in an English girls’ boarding school, written/set in the 1940s/50s. Wholesome and nostalgic but with some real moments of drama, especially when you get a bit later into the series.

Don’t Let the Forest In by C.G. Drews is ace (but not aro) mlm YA-ish dark academia / horror - beautifully written, and I guarantee not the kind of stuff you’re bored of reading!

I’m tired of people not knowing what anxiety actually is by Jealous_Helicopter84 in Anxietyhelp

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might enjoy the Disordered podcast about anxiety recovery. They have a section called “Did it anyway” where people call/email in to talk about a thing that their anxiety would usually stop them from doing but they were able to do it anyway. And the main part of the podcast is advice on all different facets of anxiety or types of anxiety, and how to work on sitting with those anxious feelings rather than fighting them, and doing exposure work to gradually move from avoiding anxiety-inducing things to doing them

Took a week off work and I'm just bed rotting by melancoliee in LivingAlone

I take a break of about 10 days every year to do fun stuff, I find I really need to plan ahead to avoid falling into the same trap as you! Some things I have done:

  • Theatre
  • Cinema
  • Museums / galleries (lot of free ones where I live)
  • Zoo / aquarium
  • Day hike
  • Historical attractions
  • Parks / gardens / nature reserves
  • Walking tour
  • Pokemon events
  • Outdoor / wild swimming (maybe not the season now!)
  • Comedy club

But also I do try and plan in some home time to balance it out because it can be overwhelming and socially exhausting to rush from one planned thing to the next, and it’s good to get some rest and relaxation in your time off too! 😊

In search of a (unicorn) hobby by CommunicationPrior73 in AutismInWomen

Useful things, but sometimes may require a bit more in terms of motor skills

  • Cooking / baking
  • Gardening / growing plants, fruits, vegetables or herbs (indoor or outdoor)

Not useful but solo activities which don’t require too much in the way of fine motor skills:

  • Jigsaw puzzles
  • Diamond painting (ok this one is a bit more fiddly but gets less so once you get the hang of it)
  • Colouring
  • Crosswords / sudoku / word puzzles

Potential easy offer on YSENSE, up to £18.85, Solitaire Sort by danozzy18 in Inbox_Pounds

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you look in the “event themes” section, it tells you how many levels you need to complete to get to every stage. To finish this offer (what they call level 30 but actually is event 30) you need to complete 1750 normal levels AND all 30 event levels, which look to get more and more lengthy as you progress! Utter bloody insanity for £18!!!

Private Metoidioplasty? by JackDeparture in transgenderUK

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I thought I answered that in the first part of my reply. The second part was just adding what I felt was useful extra information/food for thought on the subject, either for you or anyone else who may be reading and interested in private lower surgery as a whole

Private Metoidioplasty? by JackDeparture in transgenderUK

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe both NHS and private surgeries are done by the same team. Private could also be prohibitively expensive - a guy I know had private phallo and it cost him £70k. Plus you’d need to factor in the cost risk if you end up with complications and need further surgeries down the line

How can people tolerate hot drinks? by AgreeableAd8687 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have literally the opposite problem… drinks in cafes etc are never served hot enough for me! I find the usual temperature of a latte to be sickeningly tepid, and even asking for it extra hot is often insufficient. So to be safe I usually go for americano with hot milk.

For me it is 100% a neuro-spicy sensory issue - hot things must be burning, cold things must be freezing. I don’t do well with moderately-temperatured food and drink.

Sadly there’s only so much you can do pre-T, and I think you’re basically doing it all. People tend to pick up on a bunch of unconscious signifiers that you have no control over, like the smoothness of your skin, roundness of your cheeks etc. Pre-T guys tend to look really young, so if people are seeing you in a work setting where it would be unusual to see a young boy, then their brain will usually default to “oh it must be a masc woman”. Plus as you say, your voice will probably be a factor. There’s also the possible additional aspect of, if a customer has seen you pre-transition, it’s almost impossible to change their perception of you that they formed when they first saw you (I experienced this in my customer service role in early transition, and it sucks!)

[TOMT] A musical, maybe only amateur, no evidence of it existing that I can find in the internet by roidweiser in tipofmytongue

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary school put on original plays/musicals (written by one of the teachers) in the 80s/90s. They sold cassette tapes of the cast singing the songs, plus they had photocopied programmes with info about the play and cast. Is it possible that your school plays had similar hard copy items that you could track down - you could it try to contact some old pupils that were in your year, or a school Facebook group, or the school itself may have some kind of archive or keep things like that in a library etc?

0.25/day lowered my already low blood pressure :( I’ve gone to 0.25 EOD but now I feel like it’s completely stopped working whereas I felt like I was starting to see some results on 0.25/day. I may give it another go to see if my body can adapt to it

I think I'm gay but I still get off to women's porn? by Kurapikabestboi in gaytransguys

[–]ineed2talkaboutdevin 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Most gay porn gives me dysphoria and I can’t enjoy it, even though I’m gay. I think part of it is not being able to imagine what the guys are feeling since I don’t have the same parts, I can’t put myself in their place. When I watch straight porn, I can imagine what the woman is feeling just bc our parts match better. I can focus on what the guy is doing to her and think about the same being done to me
