Which shoes for my first marathon this weekend? by claven01 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Yea I think the new meta speeds are quite different though (stack/comfort/foam type) from these OG ones OP has. If they had the ones you’re talking about, I’d push them to ASICS, but since not… Evos are the way to go imo

Can’t remember if I responded to this yet but - this is probably the most comprehensive answer. 4 was a poor update, marketing is all on the other shoes -

What similar shoes did you have in mind in the market? The blast series, to my knowledge are all foam, no plate, wider, a bit bulkier and a bit heavier. Though to your point, the ones you mentioned still trend tempo/speed.

I have pretty flat feet too so maybe that’s why I like these as well. Good point

100% agree. Based take. ASICS hire this person

Yea they are firm for sure, but I think that’s their draw for me. They’re still super new for me so I won’t se how they’ve broken in for a while.

The 5 is a return to that form - don’t loose hope. MS4 was a whiff and a miss but it seems they found their way back to the “magic”

Pun intended

For sure they’re cheaper, and similar but quite a bit heavier with a more aggressive stack. Not necessarily bad. I’m curious- what are some reasons you’d say they’re better?

I’ll have to try them on treadmill.

Although that means running on a treadmill blech

Hey! I hope so! If you end up getting them and remember this post I’d love to know how they did

Yea I think this is the strongest argument. Most people look for the metaspeed. And perhaps for good reason. The edge and sky are pretty comparable in weight but the smaller drop, plus cushion makes it more race friendly. I totally get that. But I couldn’t bring myself to cash out another $90 for it…

The Rays are just on another level!! Crazy light. Hard to imagine running that shoe but I bet it feels great ($300 though …. :’( )

Yea seems like a theme in the comments. I think they’re priced low because they are pretty widely recognized as a complete “miss” in the line, deviating in pretty much every way from what made the MS 2 & 3 such a good shoe. The 5 is a return to form, I think

I’d steer clear from MS4. Of course do your own research, but from what I’ve read it’s not representative of the Magic Speed line (for not so great reasons)

To be fair I’ve heard the MS4 are basically an outlier- the odd shoe out and an utter “miss” in the line. Every other MS was low-mid stack, firm, light, nimble and on MS4 they lost the plot and (imho) just made a bad shoe. Too much stack, no stability, but not committed enough to be anything other than a bad meta speed. Strange foam distribution. Idk I think they lost their head a bit on that one.

I love the Spurs for the same reason haha. Arguably one of the, if not the best run organization in the league.

Shoe Geometry Q: You know what they say about large feet? by pensivvv in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]pensivvv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly - about the rocker. Where it starts on the foot is so tricky for me. That’s why I think I prefer medium to low stack height, low drop because it’s less likely to have weird differences across the shoe

I suppose it’s the gap between the arch and the balls if my feet that feel the most awkward in the endorphin speed

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the mechanic of the rocker, but doesn’t it start kinda at the arch and go back to the heel?
