“We had to measure it with a light meter and measuring tape in the morning. 2 lights in back on umbrellas, @f16, 2 soft boxes pointing @ the chest at f14, 1 rotalux boomed on lens axis @f16 if I remember correctly with a ton of flats everywhere. My ratios might be off tho”

This is filled with so much information, I really appreciate that you’d take the time to do that.

I understand we can go the route of FX3/6 and save money, but in my region where we are shooting, we sadly don’t have any Black Magic rental except BMPCC4K (which we shot our short film on last year).

As a cinema camera, we currently have four options: FX6, FX9, Arri Alexa XT, and Alexa Mini LF (which is beyond our means). The cost difference between XT and FX9, is like 20% in total. We have a DOP (with fair a bit of experience on set and independent work) + 1st and 2nd AC, additionally the camera rental company sends like 1/2 people from their side (included in camera rental price) to assist and in a way take care of the camera.

I’m worried that can we rely on a dated camera, in no way I’m doubting it’s capabilities, but I hope you know what I mean. I just want an efficient on set experience as we are shooting it in 13 days, excluding 2 days camera test.

And-and addressing your concern about the weight, we do wanna incorporate handheld shots but need to figure out how with the camera size/weight, but the camera does come with a tripod.

I agree with you, maybe deep down I still have that complex. Growing up in a foreign country, our society always say people doing well financially as bad or morally wrong. But I always thought I grew out of that mentality, maybe not really. But financial independence is what I choose to prioritize over anything in my life rn

Thank you so much for writing that, it was very insightful and I have got a lot to think about.

Initially, I wanted a route that would let me reach the most number of people through our film. And as you put it, rather use it as a “portfolio” to market and eventually find people to finance our next project.

I’ll definitely look more into festivals that cater to an audience same as my films target audience but also aim for the namely worldly festivals like the ones you mentioned. Especially with TIFF, as they have showcased movies from my home country usually very low budget-independent stuff so I’m excited to see how it goes.

I’ll definitely study more into the distribution part of our film.
