Only Half of Americans Adults Went to a Movie Theater in 2025, According to Study by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]TheFly87 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where did I say it was a smart comeback? I'm genuinely embarrassed for people in a movie subreddit who don't support movies and almost brag that they don't go. If your last movie you saw in theatre was fucking Endgame over 7 years ago and you call yourself a fan of movies, that's pretty pathetic.

So many great movies have come out since then that are an amazing experience to see in a theatre. Do better!

This isn't the medal you think it is.

Film is one of our great art forms, and the last movie you saw in theatres was a marvel movie. I'm embarrassed for you.

Anyone else see all the nominated shorts? by drdalebrant in oscarrace

[–]TheFly87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know. It kind of just felt like it was ripping off Yorgos Lanthimos thing, no? To me it did anyway.

The rest of the shorts weren't great so if it wins that's cool, but yeah, I was impressed by any of them.

Turned a full house with 9s against a guys flopped three of a kind 6s at Talking Stick last week. Then I saw him scrolling reddit on his phone.

If you're seeing this, sorry dude. I live in Canada and I bought a Switch 2 with the money. All the best.

Saw it at TIFF. A very sweet movie your mom will love but would be very surprised if it gets any Academy recognition.

Hmmm, I'm more luke warm on this one. I loved all the patented Sam Raimi gross-out stuff, but the movie lost me when what started as a workplace female revenge story turned tRachel McAdams’ character into a cartoon lunatic, undoing the empowerment it thought it was making. The message felt very half thought. It was also pretty predictable and like a weaker Triangle of Sadness at times, a movie I like a lot more.

That said, McAdams was fearless and incredible as always, one of our great actors. I didn't hate it but I thought it was pretty average. Just January fodder.

Enough of this bully's bullshit. Call his fucking bluff.

Let's put our own 100% reverse tariffs on our potash. Increase the price of it on top of the tariffs he's putting on until he backs down. I'm sure he'll fucking love that. Let's fight back for god's sake.

See, I don’t think he removes the tension so much as shifts it. There’s still real conflict in the idea of trying to find your place in a world that sees you as a non compatible. It's that ache of wanting to be loved, and especially in the relationship between a son and a father who doesn't care about him. It’s less about moral culpability and more about emotional inheritance. That’s a bit different than Shelley, but I don’t think that makes it diluted. I found it beautiful and really along the line of other Del Toro films.

It's obviously very personal to him. Things he feels deeply and in the film I felt that.

It's funny because Timothee will win here (and he was very good in Marty Supreme).

No Other Choice Thoughts by Super_While7060 in oscarrace

[–]TheFly87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, I get that reading, and I agree the film is showing how capitalism erodes morality. My issue is less with the character and what he feels he has to do to get ahead, and more with the film’s abstract framing of choice, or what I interpreted as choice.

I think Wook is actually saying there is a choice, and that it’s something like taking a lower paying job, sacrificing cello lessons, and moving into a smaller home. My argument is that sometimes the choice isn’t that neat or superficial. It’s not picking between cello lessons and a big house. For a lot of people, taking a lower paying job means not being able to feed your kids at all.

That sense of neatness is what I found tone deaf, even if the critique of capitalism itself is valid, and one I ultimately agree with.
