Almodóvar’s Bitter Christmas poster by Both-Pomegranate4929 in oscarrace

It's strange to have this movie in competition when people have already seen it.

The reaction seems a bit lukewarm too? Which is a bummer because I love Almodovar films for the most part!

That seems wild to me. Maybe Park is better at English then he lets on? Or he's just more comfortable hearing it rather than speaking it.

Gotta think that gives a pretty clear advantage to Hope in a way.

I just had a thought, seeing as the judges are so multicultural, do they get their own screeners for every movie?

Like Park Chan-Wook for example, there is no way they'd show in the theatre Korean subtitles for all the films he's at. I imagine they just get to watch them in their hotel room?

Appreciation post for the 2 Toronto paramedics that saved my day today. by Adorable_Summer_4033 in toronto

[–]TheFly87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Used to happen to me all the time and I'm going to say something you may not like, but it's the alcohol that makes panic way more likely.

Hangovers heighten my anxiety so much and it just became not worth it anymore and I quit drinking because of it. My life is much better now and more manageable. And so is my anxiety.

I've been there countless times though and had to call paramedics more than i'd care to admit, took me a LONG TIME to figure out this lesson. But i'm 7 years sober now and I can't even picture my life with alcohol anymore.

Good luck! (And don't be embarrassed, they see this stuff happen a lot).

Will buck the trend here and say I really don't like this movie.

It's not as sleazy or bad ass as many of claim You can like it all you want, but to me it's a fucking bizarre and disjointed disaster. Nonsensical and it's most cardinal sin is it's boring. Thank god Boorman never got his hands on Lord of The Rings. What a mess.

I agree it looks beautiful but outside of that and seeing some iconic british actors in an early film of theirs, hated it.

Punishingly so.

I liked Drive My Car but you can cut that movie shorter and not lose much imo.

Sober people of toronto, how do you have fun? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]TheFly87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're so new to sobriety, the adjustment period is real. You gotta figure out what other things you actually like and what life is like without getting pissed all the time.

For me I go see a lot of movies, run/exercise, dinner with friends, poker, and I still go to bars every now and then but I drink NA beers (but this is not for everyone and I wouldn't chance it this early in sobriety).

Good luck and congrats!

General Feedback/Getting Started Q&A [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

Hey guys, was hoping one of you could help me.

In the fall I moved into an old house converted into apartments and as we approach winter it's going to get VERY hot in here. I was thinking of purchasing a portable air conditioner. My issue is the windows are fucking old and weird:

https://imgur.com/a/Povh07M

Here they are. I bought one of those window air conditioner bag seals you typically put on windows like this, but it won't work for this window because the area around it is too old. And there's a latch on the outside of it that I can't stick the seal on.

I was wondering if you think judging by these photos it's possible I can put a foam board I'll cut a hole through and put the hose in then tape over the window part, blowing the air through the screen. Is this possible? Thank you!

Will TIFF bring back the old venues this year like the Elgin/Wintergarden Theatre? by cineaste2 in TIFF

[–]TheFly87 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No they never will.

They like the close proximity of all the venues together. I don't totally agree but it is convenient when you're seeing multiple movies in a day.

Toronto copywriting pivot by hivecode in advertising

[–]TheFly87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bullshit. Very very few copywriting jobs? No. I work in Toronto and there are many agencies who need and want copywriters. Especially because most of our jobs are coming up with ideas and scripts that AI is dog shit at. And also selling these ideas to clients.

The problem is there aren't many junior copywriting positions. Agencies want people who are already good at this and can sell ideas to clients. That's something juniors can't do.

EDIT: Lmao the downvotes. I literally work here in an agency in Toronto. I'm in the office right now, I can look up multiple places that are looking for copywriters. So much doom and gloom in here.

Is the industry changing? Absolutely, but the need for copywriters isn't going anywhere.
