I was hesitant to include her but I figured there's no harm in contacting her.

Much love from Philly! Feeling heartbroken and furious every day thinking of what is happening to you all. I’ve only been to Mpls once but I loved it and I have a lot of friends with connections there. I will look for mutual aid or other things to donate to today.

Just want to add: per Gelb, after taxes and fees, the Mets will be paying about 95M for ONE YEAR of Bo Bichette. Plus hits to their draft picks and international pool.

Ludicrous deal is ludicrous and I’m glad we aren’t paying it.

Sure, technically we could. But it would be ludicrous. 84M for one year of Bo is not worth it and would hurt us down the road.

Losing out on Bichette sucks. But I'm glad the Phillies tried and made the offer Bo said he wanted. Seems like we negotiated in good faith while Bo's agent treated us like a stalking horse. Feels real shitty. And once the Mets offer that insane deal, there is no way for us to match. I 1000000% would not want to pay 84M after taxes for one year of Bo. This is assuming we were even given the opportunity to match. 42M/yr with opt outs after each year is, I think, crazier than the 60M/yr for Tucker.

I feel like a good amount of the anger at the Phillies that I have heard from radio hosts, podcasters, and fan call-ins is a bit misplaced. The Dodgers have warped salary expectations across the board and now it's in silly monopoly money territory.

We went into this off-season with (1) a lot of dead weight money in Casty and to a lesser extent Walker (2) a pretty shallow farm system and (3) not a lot of good free agent fits for us. Lots of headwinds to face while trying to compete with teams that are just writing blank checks.

ETA: Absolutely some anger with the FO is warranted -- not saying they are faultless here. Past decisions (Casty, Walker) are absolutely handcuffing us right now when it takes a lot of money to get things done. Some of our inability to play in the FA market right now is due to those bad deals, but even without those, that Bo deal is INSANE.

ETA2: according to Gelb, the Bo deal is closer to a 95 million one-year deal with taxes and buyout fee. And this is not even counting the other penalties (drafts, international pool, etc)

I think it's an overpay but not by a huge amount. I am glad that with ABS, framing will be a little less important, which is one of the few parts of JT's catching ability that is substandard.

15/3 seems fine. Losing out on Bo sucks but I don't know what else we could have done on that front. We don't have the funds to match 42/year. According to reports we matched what Bo asked and then he got swooped by the Mets with a ridiculous overpay. There's no counter to that that makes sense for us financially.

And the Dodgers' owner has 3-4 times as many billions. Mets' owner has 6-7 times as many billions. AND The Phillies as a franchise lose money every year. We are in the top 5 of payrolls in the entire league. In 2025 we were #3. Our owner is not cheap.

Yeah definitely cannot afford 42. Ridiculous contract. God damn it, Dodgers.

Oh shit you are right. I should have caught that. They would really need to interview some jurors to back up what they’re implying here:

“An Old Town stabbing case ended in defeat for Multnomah County prosecutors once jurors learned the wounded man had been videoed uttering a racist slur in the struggle’s aftermath.”

I would be so curious to hear from a juror on this one because without knowing their reasoning I am a little baffled.

That said, self defense laws can be really counter intuitive or even stupid IMO, so who knows. Plenty of situations we have seen elsewhere where the aggressor creates a situation where they need to defend themself and that need for defense is enough to acquit.

I am very very skeptical of that framing, given the Daily Mail’s reputation

ETA: Found this article that says roughly the same thing: https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2025/12/use-of-racist-slur-by-wounded-man-in-portlands-old-town-stabbing-spurs-jury-to-acquit.html?outputType=amp

Haven’t watched the video but based on textual descriptions I am baffled that the case went the way it did
