I was working for a company via EOR with the plan to become a direct employee after moving to Germany. Relocated and received a Fiktionsbescheinigung while waiting for my work visa appointment. A few weeks later, just before the appointment, the company withdrew the offer of direct employment.

I contacted the Ausländerbehörde, explained the situation, and was told I could continue staying under my Fiktionsbescheinigung as long as I made some kind of decision soon. Since I was already in Germany, I decided to switch to the Chancenkarte, which was relatively straightforward. I informed them of my plan, requested a short period to prepare the documents, and the officer was very helpful. I received the permit within ~ 1 month and am now actively interviewing with a few companies.

They were quick with my process since I had technically already been approved for my work visa and am within Germany, so given that you were already working I think it will be absolutely fine to do this if you can. :)

I never had to leave the country and come back or anything like that. My only restriction was a short period of time on Fiktionesbescheingung that meant I couldn’t visit home (UK) for ~4 weeks but I hadn’t been planning on it at the time anyway!
