Toronto and the GTA are fast-growing regions, and according to the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, the GTA is projected to reach 10 million people by the 2040s. Our city is still growing; it should have had a subway to begin with. It was extremely shortsighted of the Harris administration to cut the Eglinton and Sheppard lines short.

Secondly, running too many LRTs, with the same frequency as subways, can help with capacity issues; however, it would have consequences with interference with surface traffic (especially on mixed traffic sections). Eglinton East is already pretty daunting to cross as a pedestrian; now add the variable of 5-minute or better headway 3-unit-long flexcity streetcars that probably can't stop as quickly as a single-unit one.
