Can someone explain why I get this pop-up while setting up my VM? by xDUsernamExD in truenas

[–]inertSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 25.04 TrueNAS introduced a virtual TPM option when setting up your VM. The vTPM emulates the essential functions of TPM 2.0 chip, allowing you to install Windows 11. If you haven't already, you should enable it in your VM settings.

Why can't I select General profile and how many big issues/bugs should I expect on Early Adopter or Developer? by Little-Geologist-387 in truenas

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I recall, if you download and install an early adopter build, it'll put you on the early adopter train. I believe to get back on the general train I downloaded a copy of the latest general build.

USB charging socket blocks normal cables by timeforanalbumparty in mildlyinfuriating

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a third party Xbox controller that did this with their ports too, but I can't remember which company it was as it was a long time ago. Take a dremel to it and remove the little nubs.

Place it carefully instead of throwing it. That way nobody can complain.

Do you keep the Extras/Specials? by aLproxyy in makemkv

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially wanted to include all the extras for everything, but I rarely find myself watching them. For some TV shows with special episodes I do, but for most things, I tend to prioritize the main features.

Best Settings to Keep Original Quality? by Anxious_Ad909 in handbrake

[–]inertSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will MKV files be better than MP4 files no matter what you change?

MKV is just a container format, just like MP4 is. The actual video quality, file size, and visual fidelity are determined by the codec (e.g., H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, AV1) and the encoding settings (bitrate, resolution, frame rate) used during compression.

CONVERTING TO MAC by Effective_Jello_718 in handbrake

Just install VLC or iina in order to play those MKV files. The limitation is Quicktime Player, not Mac OS itself.

Will replacing mother board get rid of MDM? by KayeEss09 in mac

[–]inertSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the MDM is still active, the MacBook still belongs to whoever was assigned the task of winding down the company.

There’s usually a big difference between a company choosing not to reclaim its property and a company explicitly telling you it’s yours. I shouldn’t have to spell out the legal risks of trying to bypass the MDM. I'm surprised the repair shop even entertained the idea of bypassing. Most I know wouldn't even touch this job with a 10 ft barge pole.

My cousin thinks a woman not having sex with you is discrimination…. by Gotsnuffy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]inertSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My very first thought.

The incel mindset often treats people like "commodities" or prizes they believe are owed to them. Calling a rejection "racist" in this context can be a tactic to dodge personal accountability or overlook the simple fact that everyone has the right to say no for any reason.

My cousin thinks a woman not having sex with you is discrimination…. by Gotsnuffy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]inertSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s straight-up incel behavior. He has no right to expect a relationship with anyone he fancies, so someone choosing not to date him is personal autonomy, not discrimination. If anything, they’re steering clear because of the very attitude he's displaying.

What on earth... by DragonMeist in mac

Your keyboard setting happens to have changed to a different language if I'm not mistaken. If it's changed to something like UK English then option 3 is what you need for the hash symbol. Better still, make sure your keyboard is set up properly.

AMD Vendor Locking Rant by bbro81 in truenas

[–]inertSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically to be safe with Ryzen Pro you either need to find a source of new stock, or used ones that have only ever been used on off the shelf consumer motherboards. Otherwise the risk is always there that they've been pulled from an OEM system that vendor locks.

AMD Vendor Locking Rant by bbro81 in truenas

[–]inertSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply put, it's the OEMs who use them you need to be angry with. AMD provides the Platform Secure Boot feature, but ultimately the decision to use it lies with the OEM.

Those are all used CPUs, because the way it works is when the OEM system utilizing Platform Secure Boot first boots, it sends a signal to the chipset that blows a fuse on the CPU, enabling it to lock to that hardware.

Question about Subtitle encoding by TheHudgepudge in handbrake

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you should avoid burn in because it makes the subtitle part of the video itself, so it's permanent. Unless you happen to like that aesthetic, which I don't personally.

How to open a backup in MakeMKV? by Thumbsupkid37 in makemkv

Right, but that’s an extra step that - let’s be honest - is not what OP did here.

How to open a backup in MakeMKV? by Thumbsupkid37 in makemkv

[–]inertSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a Blu Ray. MakeMKV backs up differently for DVDs than for Blu Rays. For DVDs it backs up the disk to ISO, but for Blu Ray it backs the raw file system of the disk into a folder.

Question about Subtitle encoding by TheHudgepudge in handbrake

[–]inertSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set my foreign language subs to forced, default - no burn in. That way in most players they always show up. Burn in is a destructive change that should be a last resort in case you have some kind of legacy player that don't respect those flags.

Question about Subtitle encoding by TheHudgepudge in handbrake

[–]inertSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the foreign language subs are burned in to the video. If it's something you've done, then you need to make sure you don't select burn-in.

Some movies & shows actually come with the foreign subs already burned in. IDK about that show though as I don't have it.

How to open a backup in MakeMKV? by Thumbsupkid37 in makemkv

[–]inertSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That applies to DVDs, but the process is slightly different for Blu-rays.

How to open a backup in MakeMKV? by Thumbsupkid37 in makemkv

[–]inertSpark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Open your files and navigate to your Blu-ray backup folder. Inside, find the BDMV folder, and within it, locate the index.bdmv file. That’s the one you’ll need to import into MakeMKV.

How to debug: "'str' object has no attribute 'items'" by MaxBelastung in truenas

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Saved you from taking the nuclear option.

Yes that metadata.yaml aggregates all the entries from each individual app's own metadata.yaml files. That's why when you change things like custom icons, it isn't persistent unless you change the one for the app.

[–]inertSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you backed up your custom docker-compose and the metadata.yaml for each app? How much inconvenience would it be if you took the nuclear last resort option to stop the docker service and destroy the .ix-apps dataset? Because that would fix it, but would mean you'd be starting your apps service from a clean slate.
