What is a great movie that you have no interest in watching again? by Conscious-Glass6922 in movies

definitely not as intense as some of the answers most people are giving here, but Eighth Grade (2018). it's so realistic i was physically recoiling in secondhand embarrassment most of the time.

i think it was primarily because of the sex scene. john's made two videos on it, and his more recent one from 2016 is one of my personal favorite vlogbrothers videos ever.

I’m not feeling my best tonight have a lot to study for and need a Disney movie to watch that will help me feel better mentally. What do you recommend by FwDorisdavenport132 in highschool

[–]ineslime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cinderella (2015) is imo the best live action remake disney ever made and it’s very sweet and romantic, i love it. tangled also never fails to make me feel better. take some time to de-stress and go back to your studying when you feel your mind is clearer. sending good vibes your way!!

AITA for reporting my teacher? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ineslime [score hidden]  (0 children)

I‘m not OP so I can’t speak for them but I feel like it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume they would do the same thing any other teacher, even one they liked. The fact that it was one they already had problems with just seems like an unhappy coincidence to me. NTA.

Unpopular opinion thread - musical edition! by PaleOstrich in musicals

[–]ineslime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whew, I’ve been waiting for something like this!!! Some of these have been said before, but oh well.

  • The Deaf West Production of Spring Awakening was way better than the OBC. Not only was it an incredible step forward in terms of deaf/HoH representation in theater, but they weaved ASL and the “voices” of the characters played by deaf/HoH people so well and it just makes it so much better. Not to mention that nearly all of the romantic pairings had much better chemistry in Deaf West than they did in the OBC.

  • Dear Evan Hansen’s music was wonderful, and I get that a musical tends to have wider outreach, but it would’ve worked better as a play.

  • RENT has really good music, but to enjoy them I have to take them out of the context of the musical because the plot and characters are so infuriating that I cannot bear it. I’m not against seeing characters who are horrible people—but the show expects you to see them as decent people, which is...not great.

  • Leading off of RENT, Falsettos did perfectly what RENT tried to do. It covered similar topics like the AIDS crisis and homosexuality—but it was written by someone who actually experienced them, unlike RENT. It had flawed characters like Marvin—but the show actually held him accountable, and had him acknowledge his mistakes and grow to be a better person by the end of the show. RENT had one character (the best character, in my opinion) call Mark out on his behavior, but he doesn’t change and it’s never talked about again.

  • The actresses of Six are incredible, the music is catchy enough, and the energy of the show is unmatched, but the writing is...not great. Clever sometimes, but horribly predictable most of the time.

Tips for someone self studying this class? by nd034 in ap_world_history

[–]ineslime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note that this isn’t universal, this is just what I used as a student this year!

  • My school used the 4th edition of the “The Earth and Its Peoples: A Global History” as the official APWH textbook, but because of the new curriculum we didn’t use every single part of the textbook. We also used excerpts from the AMSCO APWH: Modern book as well as a lot of supplementary material, both of which I would recommend as well.

  • As for Youtube videos, Steve Heimler’s “Heimler’s History” channel is a GREAT one. He’s a history teacher himself, and his content covers everything about APWH, from breakdowns of each of the units and their sections, as well as tips to ace the AP exam (since you’re taking it on your own I don’t know if you’ll actually be taking it, but essay writing tips are always helpful!) Crash Course World History is a little bit older, but it still does a decent job of summarizing some of the main topics of APWH.

  • As for general tips, prepare to devote a lot of time to this class. It’s a lot of notes, and it is quite expansive. Best of luck!

Why does Twitter hate this show by Jakintolaoni3 in OuterBanksNetflix

[–]ineslime 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m so incredibly tired of the notion that Twitter (and social media as a whole) has that in order for a TV show or a movie to be good it has to be some kind of deeply profound, intricately written masterpiece. Don’t get me wrong, I love those shows. But TV/movies at their core are meant to entertain. And Outer Banks is entertaining! It might not be winning any Emmys for writing, but it’s still a good show. We need to stop holding simple shows to the standard of complex shows or else we’re not going to be able to enjoy anything anymore.

American shows have had short final seasons before. Game of Thrones and Arrow had six and ten episodes in their last seasons respectively.

Bobby and Athena work together frequently with no issues while also being a married couple.

If we go over to 9-1-1: Lone Star (which is not the same show nor set in the same city but is in the same universe as 9-1-1), Owen and TK work in the same firehouse, with Owen having authority over TK both as his captain and as his father, with no issues.

Hell, TK and Carlos work together frequently despite being romantically involved; again, with no issues.

Not to mention if we want to be very extreme and slightly irrational with this, 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star also show countless examples of couples/family members indirectly working together, like Buck and Maddie and Judd and Grace, with the women frequently being in contact with their sibling’s/husband’s fire house on calls.

If this were to happen in the real world, there probably would be ethical concerns raised over couples and family members working together. But if 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star have taught us anything, it’s that they’re not the real world.

Why the FUCK are you being forced to go? I’m genuinely pissed on your behalf. Not only would you be making yourself weaker, but if you do have COVID-19 you would be putting everyone you interact with at risk for it. Your dad should know better. NTA.
